Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Corporate Tax department. We are looking for a Tax Analyst, Senior to join our team. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and customer service. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.

This position is hybrid, meaning it will report to our Inver Grove Heights location two days a week and work from home 3 days a week. We are open to remote for candidates located outside of the Twin Cities/Minnesota area.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and file monthly state fuel tax returns and support the compilation of the federal excise tax return. Collect and analyze data from fuel activity reports, the general ledger and business units. Reconcile data by gallons and dollars. Prepare motor fuel returns utilizing Avalara Returns Excise software. Create and file returns. Process payment requests. Create required journal entries.
  • Support the sales and use tax compliance outsourced engagement, assist with preparation, filing, payment and reconciliation of miscellaneous indirect taxes.
  • Research tax law, evaluate Company compliance and or opportunities and communicate impact.
  • Support business units and customers regarding indirect taxes. Respond to questions regarding rates, licenses and applicability of tax to transactions. Assist with credit/rebills as necessary. Coordinate and support indirect tax audits.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the Certificate Management System and the capture and processing of exemption certificates, licenses and registrations.
  • Actively participate and contribute to continuous improvement projects, including the development and maintenance of BOTs, MS BI and Power Query tools. Support other indirect tax compliance, systems, and special projects, including CUT/a, CMS and Corp Indirect Tax SharePoint.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4+ years of multistate indirect tax experience, focused on compliance
  • Experience working with SAP or similar ERP system
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A strong sense of ownership, high attention to detail and a commitment to excellence
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI and Power Automate, and SharePoint
  • Experience with and passion for continuous improvement
Additional Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Accounting or Taxation
  • Certified as a Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Lean Continuous Improvement Certification
  • Experience working with SAP S/4HANA and or JDE 9.0
  • Intermediate to advanced experience creating solutions and automation with MS power platform and SharePoint
  • Competency participating with and leading tax process and system improvement and automation
  • 4+ years of multistate motor fuel tax compliance
