Job Details

Under the direction of the CEO, the Finance Manager is responsible for maintaining and controlling the financial reporting, including accounting, and operational review that properly reflects the financial position of our client and ensures accurate reporting to the regulatory and governing bodies that oversee the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees all accounting and finance functions/tasks to maintain accuracy of financial records (Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, travel and expense reporting, income and expenses, account reconciliations). Includes work performed by current or future positions such as full/part-time accountant, office manager and/or consulting group.
  • Prepares all investment entries including monitoring compliance with the company's approved investment policy. Coordinates cash management, transfer of funds between investment and cash accounts, and investment rebalancing with company investment advisor and trust account.
  • Implements and complies with accounting and operational policies and procedures approved by the CEO, including the Employee Handbook.
  • Plans, develops, and implements effective accounting strategies and procedures that are compliant with applicable accounting standards (Statutory Accounting Principles), statutory regulations, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Prepares all required financial reports, analysis, and related information for presentation to management and the Board of Directors (including coordinating the Board packet compilation with the CEO).
  • Coordinates the preparation and filing of any necessary State and Federal tax returns.
  • Oversees preparation, issuance, and control of Form 1099s.
  • Coordinates the annual independent financial audit and the audits conducted by the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.
  • Coordinates the reserves analysis and dividend recommendation reviews with the independent actuary.
  • Implements and monitors operations, internal controls, and accounting systems of the Finance Department
  • Prepares the annual budget for the Company for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Collaborates on the calculation of recommended liability re-pricing every two years and obtains actuarial review and approval of the rate changes.
  • Reviews case reserves and calculates incurred but not reported reserves after review with claims managers/directors for monthly financial reporting.
  • Reviews all company contracts for accuracy and liability as part of organizational vendor risk management oversight.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • 8+ years of accounting/ finance experience
  • CPA preferred
  • Master's degree a plus
  • Insurance industry experience a plus or public entity pooling experience preferred;
  • 3+ years of management experience preferred;
