Position Title Montessori Guide or Early Learning Teacher Division Finance & Administration Department/Office Early Childhood Center Position Summary Information

Advertisement St. Catherine University and our Early Childhood Education program invite applications for a full-time, Montessori Guide or Early Learning Teacher position.

Our Early Childhood Center has a Four Star Parent Aware rating, the highest possible rating. The Center offers a Montessori Children's House and an Early Learning Program. The Montessori Children's House supports children in developing independence through choice of purposeful work. We provide an exemplary Early Learning experience for children ages 33 months to 5 years for families within and outside of the St. Catherine University community. Our teachers facilitate children's play and exploration in order to help them learn new skills, concepts, social skills, and critical thinking skills. We serve children ages 33 months to 6 years for families within and outside of the St. Catherine University community.

This position develops, leads and maintains a model program facilitating children's self-creation and fosters social, spiritual, emotional, cognitive, physical and critical thinking skill development.

Responsibilities include:

    • Providing vision, direction and development for the Early Learning or Montessori Children's House model of early childhood education
    • Develop curriculum and observation/assessment plans in alignment with the NAEYC Accreditation and Parent Aware expectations.
    • Lead and guide staff in the program, including training new staff and students.
    • Conduct team meetings with program staff.
    • Maintain standards of practice for the program, ensuring that the program meets the requirements of NAEYC, Parent Aware, and DHS licensing (Rule 3).
    • Teach in the classroom and record children's progress.
    • Prepare the classroom prior to start of school year, set up new activities for the environment throughout the year, and clean up at year's end.
    • Maintain an organized classroom and personal work space.
    • Participate in preparation for regulatory audits and accreditation renewal.
    • Attend professional development activities, train assistant teachers, participate in staff meetings and meetings with director and assistants.
    • Engage parents through writing newsletters, sharing articles of interest, and preparing and conducting conferences.
    • Keep current with new and effective early childhood practices and theories.

Minimum Qualifications Any ONE of the following:

    • Diploma from the American Montessori Institute (AMI) or American Montessori Society (AMS) preprimary credential, primary diploma

OR

  • Baccalaureate degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education from an accredited college or university.

OR

  • Baccalaureate degree in any field with 18 quarter credits or 12 semester credits in DHS approved coursework.

OR

  • License from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) for elementary education without kindergarten endorsement with 6 quarter credits within one year of initial employment teaching children under school age

OR

  • License from MDE for prekindergarten or a license for elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited college or university with (36) credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education and/or early childhood special education is preferred.
    • Forty (40) weeks or more experience working with children as a teacher or assistant teacher.
    • Classroom management skills, including, ability to guide and discipline children in a respectful manner
    • Experience successfully collaborating with peers
    • Flexibility and patience in responding to the changing needs of the classroom
