About the Job

Full-time nine month continuous position starting August 15, 2022. The anticipated salary range is $20.65- $24.70/hour plus an excellent benefits package.

Position Overview:

Under general supervision from the Library Director, the Library Assistant (classification: 4997) works independently to provide circulation and access services in both a physical and digital space. This position is responsible for the supervision of the library's student employees, maintenance of the library's reserve collections both print and electronic, and management of the library's outreach and communication.

Functions and Duties:

Supervision (30%)
  • Hire, train, and arrange schedules for library student employees.
  • Complete payroll processes for student employees, keeping track of hours and working with Office of Financial Aid.

Circulation/Access Services (40%)
  • Oversee circulation desk and course reserves.
  • Monitor overdues and lost or missing items.
  • Oversee financial transactions such as fines/fees.
  • Manage interlibrary loan processes.

Reference Services (15%)
  • Participate in reference services for the library, including creation and maintenance of LibGuides as assigned.

Outreach and Marketing (10%)
  • Participates in the outreach and marketing of library resources through displays, social media, and events held in the library.

Other (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned, including test proctoring for students.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or three years of college education plus two years of relevant library experience or five years of relevant library experience;
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competence, and achievement in working with diverse student populations;
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and communication skills;
  • Supervisory skills, or demonstrated ability to supervise;
  • Excellent computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe and popular social media applications.
  • Final offer contingent on successful background verification check, verification of ability to work in the United States, and receipt of official college transcripts.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a higher education library setting;
  • Experience with integrated library systems, preferably Alma/Primo;
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant mission of the University of Minnesota Crookston, especially as related to access and student success.
