About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Credit Risk & Approval Senior Manager who will be responsible for credit approvals in excess of the subordinate credit authority in the Middle Market line of business for the West Region within the Commercial Banking business in our Corporate Risk Organization.

In this role, you will:
  • Monitor and review loan underwriting and portfolio management performance, analyze new business prospects, provide oversight of credit models and support strategic initiatives of the relevant business lines.
  • Provide directives and guidance on credit limits for others and establish management and administrative procedures to ensure adherence to credit policies
  • Approve credit in excess of subordinate credit authority
  • Recommend credit for approval in excess of their authority
  • Ensure appropriate underwriting and surveillance of all credit products within the portfolio
  • Understand credit themes and trends in the portfolio and pipeline, along with the impact of those themes and trends
  • Demonstrate and sponsor appropriate risk management and leadership behaviors in support of doing what is right for the customer, people as a competitive advantage, ethics, and diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Provide oversight of problem loan management including delinquency and collections
  • Identify and escalate credit risk and control issues to the Group Senior Credit Officer with transparency, in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Implement the Risk Management Framework through promoting adoption of the Risk Operating Model, setting clear behavioral expectations for risk management, ensuring clearly defined roles and accountability, and promoting a sound control environment
  • Drive the execution of remediation plans to close consent order and other regulatory commitments, as applicable
  • Regularly present to senior management in Middle Market Banking, Commercial and Risk, Regulators, and internal and external shareholders
  • Oversee and actively manage adherence to credit policy, as well as recommend appropriate revisions to credit policy to reflect strong practices and adherence to risk appetite
  • Promote a strong risk management culture and discipline throughout the relevant business segments
  • Lead a team of Credit Officers covering the West Region
Required Qualifications, US:
  • 6+ years of Credit Risk & Approval experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of Management experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience within Commercial Banking lending, including credit supervision
  • Demonstrated success driving transformation, continuous improvement, and efficiency, including the ability to manage and prioritize potentially competing objectives to achieve optimal customer, shareholder, and/or team member outcomes
  • Proven communication skills with the ability to influence, develop, partner, and maintain collaborative relations at all levels within the organization and externally with customers, regulators, partners, and communities
  • Proven experience successfully leading a line of business or corporate function in a business of comparable size, scale, complexity, and regulatory oversight
  • Deep knowledge of the infrastructure needed to support a commercial business, leading-edge credit risk practices, and required end-to-end processes
  • Strong process management
  • Proven ability to foster constructive relationships with regulatory agencies, peers at other financial institutions, business leaders, and other internal risk management leaders/groups
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and effectively build relationships within a matrixed environment to influence outcomes both within line of business and Corporate Risk
  • Strong leadership and people management skills to lead a large and geographically dispersed organization. Evidence of ensuring team has the right capabilities and number of resources
  • Results-driven approach to work
  • Capable of working under great pressure with equanimity to manage a considerable volume of information and priorities
  • Strong educational credentials with a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics; Masters in the same subjects or M.B.A. preferred
