Mechanic / Equipment Operator

Position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs for all Highway equipment and vehicles.  Duties include purchasing and maintaining parts/supplies inventories for the shop; documenting and maintaining all vehicle/equipment maintenance records performed in the shop; and assists in the development of equipment and mechanical specifications for bid purchases. This position will also operate maintenance equipment given the needs of the department. Principal location is Red Lake Falls shop. Wage range is $46,571-$60,549 + benefits.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, Vocational Certificate/Degree in Gas/Diesel repair maintenance and minimum of 1-3 years in heavy equipment operation and repair; OR an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Must be able to obtain the following within 6 months of hire: State of Minnesota Class A CDL combination driver’s license, Truck Inspection Certification, Air Conditioning Certification and Forklift Safety Certificate.

Knowledge of vehicle/equipment repair/maintenance and warranty policies, practices, procedures and administrative issues, safety inspections/certification requirements and regulations and OSHA requirements. Skilled in making various electrical repairs, engine repairs, hydraulic system repairs, air brake systems, and building maintenance repairs. Maintaining shop records relating to repair and maintenance tasks and to purchasing and inventory control.
