Primary Responsibilities:

  • Partner with domain architects in setting the technical vision and strategy for Human Capital product engineering teams based on business goals and roadmaps
  • Evaluate and assist in decision making around the use of new or existing technologies and tools
  • Provide engineering leadership across teams to empower and transform the engineering culture, mindset, and delivery practices
  • Build and mature engineering capabilities and establish a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Accelerate the depth and breadth of engineering skills across all engineering practices
  • Lead, coach and mentor software engineers and hold them accountable
  • Serve as supervisor for 3-9 globally distributed software engineers
  • Drive a mindset around developing and supporting highly available, scalable, secure, and serviceable products
  • Collaborate and partner with product leaders to ensure technology solutions generate the maximum business value and meet business needs both short-term and long-term
  • Apply technical expertise, leadership, and governance to guide teams in solution design decisions that balance short term needs with the long-term strategy
  • Build exemplary solutions in terms of efficiency, stability, extensibility, and the ability to evolve over time
  • Create patterns and accelerators that streamline common engineering tasks through automation, prebuilt pipelines, guided tutorials, and documentation

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience, experience leading a globally distributed team
  • 3+ years of experience deploying Cloud based solutions
  • 3+ years of current hands-on experience with modern data platforms and technology stacks and willingness to get into the details, able to coach, mentor and support team members in skill and career growth.
  • 3+ years of experience communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences at VP and Sr. Director levels
  • 3+ years of experience designing a microservices based architecture

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in architecting using modern API and data access patterns and technologies such as: Kafka, noSQL solutions, GraphQL, Cassandra, Elasticsearch and modern languages: Java, Go, Python
  • Expertise in Continuous Delivery to Production and able to bring that knowledge, experience, and processes to a large, global organization
  • Track record of success building scalable technology solutions that support the data needs of a large enterprise

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $113,500 to $218,100. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
