Position Title: Electrical Engineer III or Senior (TSM) Department/Location: Transmission, Engineering & Construction/Transmission System Maintenance; Menoken, ND

Company: Basin Electric Power Cooperative Position Purpose: Electrical Engineer III - This position requires a highly motivated engineer which is responsible for engineering functions to maintain the integrity of the transmission system through protections, controls, and metering with minimal supervision and guidance from senior team members. Tasks associated with this position include investigating, tracking, logging, and reporting of equipment outages and operations that occur on Basin Electric's transmission system. The engineer shall participate in the development and maintenance of software and power system analysis tools. In addition, the incumbent will perform in the engineering and project management role for construction and maintenance projects with minimal consultation from group members. Other engineering functions would include review of specifications, design philosophy, and drawings, along with the requirement for completion of facility commissioning checklists, procedures, testing files, record drawings, and energization procedures for assigned projects. Further responsibilities of the incumbent would involve providing support for operations and field personnel with diagnostics and repair of transmission facility equipment in order to maintain the stability of the Bulk Electric System (BES).

This position may travel within Basin's nine-state footprint, domestic travel, and foreign travel. Senior Electrical Engineer - This position requires a highly motivated engineer which is responsible for complex engineering functions to maintain the integrity of the transmission system through protections, controls, and metering with minimal supervision and guidance from senior team members. Tasks associated with this position include investigating, tracking, logging, and reporting of equipment outages and operations that occur on Basin Electric's transmission system. The engineer shall participate in the development and maintenance of software and power system analysis tools. In addition, the incumbent will perform in the engineering and project management role for construction and maintenance projects, which includes developing and maintaining schedule and budget with minimal consultation from group members. Other engineering functions consist of reviewing specifications, design philosophy, and drawings, along with the requirement for completion of facility commissioning checklists, procedures, testing files, record drawings, and energization procedures for assigned projects. Further responsibilities of the incumbent would involve providing support for operations and field personnel with diagnostics and repair of transmission facility equipment in order to maintain the stability of the Bulk Electric System (BES). This position may travel within Basin's nine-state footprint, domestic travel, and foreign travel. Additional expectations are to mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineers. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position which may involve physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber-related assets or systems.

Qualifications: Electrical Engineer III - This position requires broad technical knowledge and skills acquired through completion of a four-year degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC)/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited electrical engineering program and six years of related electrical engineering experience. The incumbent must have the ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, and must be proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) certificate is required. A valid driver's license is also required.

Senior Electrical Engineer - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have an advanced technical knowledge and skills, which is acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited electrical engineering program and 10 years of related engineering experience. Familiarity with protective relaying principles and supervisory control systems is also required. The ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, technical writing skills, and proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint are required. An Engineer-in-Training (ET) or Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) certificate and Professional Engineering (PE) registration are also required. The incumbent must have familiarity with current Windows operating system, ASPEN, AutoCAD, Mathcad, or similar software.

A valid driver's license is also required. Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: This position requires frequent sitting; and occasional standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, use of keyboard/computer, pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Requires finger dexterity, good hearing and color vision, and the ability to perform close work. Requires the ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others. May be required to work under pressure due to conflicting priorities and deadlines. Occasionally works in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. May be required to occasionally work at heights up to 50 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. Travel to plant sites and substations are required, either by operating a motor vehicle or traveling in Cooperative or commercial aircraft. Equipment operated includes computers, various control devices, electrical test equipment, and normal shop tools.
