As a Sales Tax Accountant you will play a key support role in ensuring accurate accounting of sales tax and other tax liabilities. You will be a critical team member within the organization reporting directly to the Sr. Accounting Manager. In this position, you will be completing specialized work efficiently, with confidence and competence. Ideal candidates will have above-average attention to detail and concern for the exact correctness of work, with a strong commitment to complete tasks on time. The successful candidate must show great initiative, self-motivated, and be able to work with limited supervision. A somewhat faster-than-average pace will be the norm for this position.


Sales Tax Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Have primary ownership of the Sales Tax function, will manage the sales tax audits, and be involved in the ongoing set up and maintenance of Avalara software
  • When changes in the nature of the work occur, training and support will be given
  • Use Avalara software along with our ERP system to calculate, report, and review monthly sales tax for the company across multiple states
  • Establishes and documents standard reporting procedures for each state
  • Establishes new tax accounts for states as needed.
  • Prepares monthly tax account reconciliations and account analysis
  • Coordinate and manage all external sales tax audits
  • Manage tax reporting for annual franchise taxes and real estate taxes.
  • Identifies opportunities for efficiencies and streamlines procedures where possible
  • Executes the individual and team goals that support strategic and operational initiatives
  • Contributes to the team culture
  • Complete and review returns across a multi-state region
  • The Sales Tax Accountant may also provide support to the broader accounting team with system implementation testing and other special project work as needed

Requirements:
  • 2+ years of prior sales tax accounting/reporting experience
  • Multi-state sales tax experience strongly preferred
  • Two- or Four-Year Accounting degree required
  • Strong MS Excel skills required
  • Ability to communicate accounting and financial information into common language
  • Excellent communicator - both written and oral
  • Resourceful - figures out how to achieve results creatively with finite resources
  • Positive attitude and a team player
  • Skilled in self-organization and priority-setting
  • Takes ownership of work product and is dedicated to driving results
