BASIC FUNCTION

The Campus Educator position is responsible for: (1) The planning and coordinating of on-going clinical staff development with the intent being to continually enhance the knowledge, skill and growth of the staff; (2) the developing and implementing of effective skills training and re-training of staff; (3) the development, implementation and evaluation of the clinical orientation program; (4) the provision of hands-on unit training as indicated by audits, observations, and quality assurance; (5) and the education of residents/families in nursing related treatments and procedures as needed.

Other responsibilities include: monitoring compliance with Oakwood policies and procedures, State and Federal regulations applicable to Oakwood's continuum of care; identification of system problems; resulting solutions and other duties as assigned.

The Campus Educator reports to the Vice President of Clinical Excellence and Innovation.

2. Develop and implement an effective orientation and skill/competency training program for nursing staff in the skilled nursing facility including, but not limited to: CNA, MAA, LPN, RN. This includes training on electronic medical record, cares, policies, etc.

3. Plan and coordinate ongoing clinical staff development programs for staff to assure development and learning of current clinical practices as it relates to geriatric care (general training/re-training of staff).

4. Participates in the monitoring of nursing skills on-the-floor using quality assurance tools as appropriate.

5. Participates in monitoring nursing staff in-service/meeting attendance. Arranges for staff to complete all required training and in-services.

6. Responsible for monitoring, tracking and documenting in-services for direct care staff as well as campus wide training for all staff on global training issues.

7. Accountable for the planning, implementing and updating of the Nursing Preceptor, and Medication Administration Assistant mandatory education classes, program and recognition programs.

8. Coordinate monthly licensed staff meetings and floor meeting with direction of Director of Resident Care Services and managers.

9. Provides leadership to the nursing staff to perform assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation of all nursing services to all residents during the shift.

10. Collaborates with other departments to provide cooperation and team work to achieve the desired outcomes for the residents in all areas of functioning.

11. Promotes and participates in a variety of programs to educate and enhance the skills, knowledge and quality of life for residents and staff.

12. Creates education goals, objectives, and strategies using learning principles and available education tools and technology.

13. Utilizes Oakwood's LMS (Relias) to develop training plans, manage training records, and provide learning opportunities for employees.

14. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs and learning outcomes.

15. Understands and completes accurate documentation.

16. Works to manage all resources in an efficient and compassionate manner.

17. Performs other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of the nursing process with current competent nursing skills.

2. Interest and understanding of staffing needs and concerns.

3. Ability to work well with others and to promote interdepartmental team work.

4. A positive outlook and approach as well as creativity in finding solutions.

5. Good communication skills, both oral and written.

6. Willingness to learn, teach and inspire staff and residents.

7. Willingness and ability to be flexible, responsible and accountable.

8. Understands adult learning styles and has the ability to adapt education techniques accordingly.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND/OR TRAINING

1. Registered Nurse with current Wisconsin license.

2. Two to three years of experience in long term setting desirable.

3. Prior leadership experience desirable.

4. Registered to be a Community-Based Care Instructor within 60 days of hire.

5. Knowledgeable in a specialty area of geriatric care preferred.
