The Principal Engineer will be responsible for design, design verification and design documentation. The position requires skills in schematic capture, layout techniques, mathematical modeling, and simulation along with hands-on lab skills including troubleshooting and prototype building. This individual will be a self-starter with both a theoretical and hands on approach to design. This role requires involvement as a member of in-house and global cross-functional Baxter teams.

Responsibilities:

Perform design, schematic capture and layout of electronic circuits for medical device use.
  • Design and prototype digital systems including microprocessors, FPGAs and other supporting digital circuits.
  • Design of analog circuits, including audio, instrumentation and optical circuits.
  • Design of high speed signal lines involving transmission line techniques.
  • Mathematical analysis of circuit designs.
  • Schematic capture input, including component selection.
  • Layout implementation, including routing PCBs.
  • Generation of PCBA build files, including boms, gerbers, assembly and fab drawings, etc.
  • Bench level testing and verification.
  • Working with contract manufacturers to deliver PCBA design packages that will meet manufacturability and yield requirements as well as solving component end-of-life and procurement issues.
  • Documentation of design requirements, design analysis and design descriptions.


Qualifications:
  • Five or more years' experience designing digital, analog and mixed signal circuits.
    • Schematic capture experience.
    • PCB implementation, including performing and/or overseeing layout and generating PCBA build files.
  • Board level debug and diagnosis using oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs and other bench test equipment.
  • Board level design verification.
  • Digital and analog circuit modeling.
  • Design for manufacturing/manufacturability experience.
  • Design documentation, including design requirements, design analysis and design descriptions. (Repetition of above responsibility bullet.)
  • B.S. and 5+ years of experience or M.S. and 2+ years of experience.


Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Altium schematic capture and layout tools. Cadence OrCad/PCB Designer experience is a plus. (Assuming the transition to Altium is still planned.)
  • Experience with medical devices and associated international standards.
  • Experience with safety critical system development.
  • Experience with mathematical modeling tools such as Mathcad.
  • Experience with SiliconExpert or similar bill of material component tracking tools or processes.
