JOB SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Nursing Student Success Director is the leadership and management of student retention and success programming in the School of Nursing. The Director collaborates with faculty and staff and liaises with relevant resources to develop, coordinate, deliver, and continuously improve student retention and success programming for achievement of successful, culturally responsive outcomes in academic performance, licensure pass rates, and student satisfaction. The Director demonstrates a commitment to the vision and mission of St. Thomas, the Morrison Family College of Health, and the School of Nursing and is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experiences for students to increase student retention, program completion, and career success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Program Development and Management. Develops, implements, evaluates, and continuously improves, in collaboration with the Founding Director of Nursing, the Office of Retention and Student Success, and faculty and staff, success and retention models, including RN tutor-mentors, academic coaches, student study groups, retreats, workshops and activities focused on sense of belonging and cultural competence, and internal and external partnerships geared toward increasing nursing workforce diversity.

Advising. Collaborates with Assistant Program Director, Nursing Operations, the Founding Director of Nursing, Academic Counseling & Support, and faculty and staff to develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve advising models, including providing targeted support for students with special needs, and meeting with families within FERPA guidelines. Carries a student advising load.

Faculty and Staff Development. Provides faculty and staff education and development in best practices for nursing student success and retention, including the purposes, processes, and procedures for implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving success and retention systems.

Resource Management. Procures and secures human and financial resources to sustain retention and success programming, including participation in securing grant funding.

Quality Management. Collaborates with the Founding Director of Nursing, faculty, staff, and relevant individuals, to identify, support and advise at risk students, including a focus on NCLEX-RN?? preparation and remediation programming, and adherence to the School of Nursing Systematic Program Evaluation and Continuous Improvement Plan. Develops success and retention program metrics (both leading and lagging indicators), identifying benchmarks, monitoring outcomes, and developing related strategies and initiatives for the program.

Representation and Dissemination. Represents the School of Nursing at School of Nursing, MFCOH, the St. Thomas Retention and Student Success committee and university, local, regional, state, and national events as they relate to the advancement of the success and retention program, including disseminating retention and success program outcomes.

Recruitment. Collaborates with the Director of Student Recruitment and the Assistant Program Director, Nursing Operations to develop and implement pipeline strategies to promote nursing careers and health care careers.

Hiring and Training. Collaborates with the Founding Director of Nursing, faculty and staff to create, deliver, evaluate and continuously improve training programs for RN tutor-mentors and academic coaches. Provides oversight for performance of RN tutor-mentors and academic coaches in collaboration with Assistant Program Director, Nursing Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree preferably in nursing or a health related field

Five years of professional level experience

Five years of experience in student services with diverse populations

Experience implementing and managing large, complex projects

Fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or eligible for legally required exemption such as a medical or religious reason.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in nursing or a health related field
