Industrial Engineer
Position Overview
An Industrial Engineer will have a lead role in small to medium scope and complexity projects and/or upgrades. This role will have a strong supporting role in larger capacity expansions or process and system redesigns. This role will leverage engineering first principles while designing tools, equipment and processes for existing process improvements in the Product Distribution Center.
Responsibilities
Must be able to...
- Provide documentation, training, and basic support
- Design and deliver system components and processes that are human facing
- Use statistical analysis and time study tools, design process improvements, job aids and mechanical systems including documentation and training
- Work with Digi-Key and 3rd party teams to lead areas of system installations and testing
- Be a Subject Matter Expert on designs for which you are responsible, including ergonomics, and motion and time studies
- Be Responsible for prototyping or design Proof of Concept
- Work closely with PDC operations, Operational Excellence and LSS teams to contribute to process improvements
- Work on a design team or individually to meet business needs with the cross-functional teams, and know the capabilities of the areas of design for which you are responsible
- Follow engineering first principles in equipment, process, and human factors design
- Provide support for medium to complex issues
- Responsible for determining what level of automation may be needed for a given project, and how to integrate the human element with this automation
- Maintains a role of subject matter expert for human factors while designing and improving processes for the Product Distribution Center
- Develop and implement engineered labor standards, and audit to verify alignment between documented and practiced process
- Work with key Team Members within functional areas to gain support of sustaining best practices and alignment with documented work instructions
- Deploy root cause analysis approach to ergonomic, material handling and safety challenges.
- Play a pivotal role in educating and training others on the purpose, structure, and function of a Labor Management system

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in industrial, electrical, or mechanical engineering or related field with a 3.0 minimum GPA
- Typically, 0-5 years of experience as an Industrial engineer in or related field
- Collaborates with Senior and Principal Engineers, Software Engineers and end users with a majority of time spent designing, integrating and delivering systems, processes, or controls
- Designs and implements solutions to support overall system requirements
- Provides design knowledge and expertise to support operations, engineering and maintenance and training
- Participates in projects
- Supports project deliverables with necessary documentation, configuration, programming, etc.
- Good knowledge and demonstrated troubleshooting abilities
- Seek guidance from senior staff when needed
- Provide assistance to junior staff when needed
- Understanding of the business function related to overall systems
- Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
- Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
