Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal RF Microwave Design Engineer or RF Microwave Design Engineer for our location in Plymouth, MN.

Designs, develops, tests radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits, or products. Includes antenna design, both reflector and array systems, frequency synthesizers, transmitters and receivers. General frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Demonstrates the skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of increasing scope and complexity as assigned. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Works under general supervision. Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.

Candidates should have demonstrated capabilities in the following areas:

Qualifications

Basic Principal

  • Understanding of Transmission line theory and how to design transmission lines based on substrate dielectric constant and thickness for complex PCB development
  • Understanding of relative permeability, relative permittivity, dielectric loss tangent, magnetic loss tangent, and their impact on electromagnetics
  • Familiarity and can utilize Network analyzers, Signal analyzers, power meters, and other RF test gear to evaluate and test for design requirements
  • Familiarity and can evaluate datasheets for RF circuit components such as passives, mixers, couplers, Power Amps, LNA s, synthesizers, and switch s to meet performance specifications.
  • Understand how to navigate/read Smith Chart
  • Understanding of S-parameters and how to capture them using Vector Network Analyzer
  • Willing to learn complex RF simulation design tools
  • A strong curiosity and drive to learn RF design principles and techniques.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to acquire a Secret Clearance.
  • Preferred Principal

  • Experience with simulation tools such as ANSYS HFSS, ADS, COMSOL, XFDTD, or other
  • Experience/knowledge on Electromagnetic Environments Effects and mitigation
  • Familiarity and experience with:
  • Test and debugging of RF circuits
  • RADAR principles and RF Hardware design
  • RF Communications Transceiver Design
  • System level design for optimized SNR
  • Antenna design principles
  • Schematic capture, layout, and simulation for circuit board development
  • Link Budget analysis
  • Digital modulation and coding
  • High density, integrated packaging such as RFIC s, MCM s, and SiP s
  • Mil-STD s, E3, EMI, EMC
  • Basic Engineer

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 2 years of experience, MS with 0 years of experience

  • Salary Range: $78, - $118,000.00Salary Range 2: $96, - $145,

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to basepay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
