The Specialty Pharmacy Account Executive role is the specialty pharmacy account management operational subject matter expert for designated clients and internal OptumRx teams. This position is designed to provide support for new and existing specialty clients, strengthening the client relationship, improving client retention, contractual adherence, overall operational capture rate and profitability. Additionally, this role is responsible for various client and operational reporting and projects.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Specialty Pharmacy Account Executive is the client facing operational point of contact that manages a book of designated clients, from implementation through the life cycle of the client, ensuring all specialty contractual operational and reporting requirements are met.

  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert SME for specialty operational services and processes to internal teams and clients
  • Develops relationship with clients and cross functional teams
  • Provides specialty pharmacy operational support during client implementation through the life cycle of the client
  • Perform client contract reviews to identify specialty operational requirements and performance guarantees; ensure and facilitate compliance to regulatory requirements and contractual requirements
  • Maintains client information in databases, audits client information to ensure accuracy
  • Manages operational and client reporting for specialty programs and products CMP, Therapy Solutions, Optum Connections, QBRs, etc.
  • Acts as Client facing specialty pharmacy consultant for monthly, quarterly, annual and adhoc client meetings
  • Assists with complex and escalated issue resolution for designated clients, including working with payer on claim rejects due to adjudication issues, network issues, etc.
  • Manages Client Service Remediation Plans, ensuring that actions are completed and reported to account team and client
  • Presents specialty enhancements and opportunities to internal teams and assigned clients
  • Collaborates with marketing to create specific collateral needs
  • Monitors claims processing to ensure profitability and script capture goals are achieved
  • Attends internal meetings, trainings and provides mentoring / coaching to team members
  • Coordinates with cross functional operational teams and provides support on special projects as needed
  • Travel for meetings, conferences and outside client support may be required

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or 2 year technical certificate
  • 3+ years PBM Account Management experience
  • 3+ years of client facing experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience facilitating meetings with various audiences
  • Experience in relationship development and problem solving
  • Experience managing and completing complex projects
  • Experience with PBM claims and adjudication processing
  • Experience working with PBM client contracts
  • Experience with new and existing client implementations
  • Experience with Tableau
  • Experience with Service now
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of specialty pharmacy operations
  • Solid knowledge of specialty pharmacy products and programs
  • Highly proficient using MS Power Point

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
