PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Robotic Welder Operator is responsible for the set up and operation of computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on steel products as well as adhering to all safety requirements and protocols.


MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Programs and sets up fixtures to hold metal components for assembling structural forms, using knowledge of welding techniques and engineering requirements.
  • Participates in designing of all fixtures for the robot.
  • Performs destructive and non-destructive tests of sample welds to confirm weld quality when needed.
  • Selects wire, tips, and electrodes for specific operation to be performed.
  • Fits and positions parts in accordance with drawing specifications using locating fixtures and measuring devices as required.
  • Checks work as necessary to assure holding prescribed tolerances to maintain quality standards.
  • Tack welds as necessary.
  • Works from drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to plan work in proper operational sequence and determine methods and techniques to be applied.
  • Identifies job flow problems and causes and recommends corrective action to ensure timely and efficient production effort.
  • Interprets drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to determine methods and techniques to be applied.
  • Uses care to lay a smooth bead, obtains proper penetration and fusion, detects defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and reports it to the supervisor.
  • Performs any assembly of products that may be required.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Welds to customers specifications on all size weldments. Customer appearance is a necessity.
  • Demonstrate ability to program and operate robots safely.
  • Develop weld schedules and edit weld programs to achieve sound welds and parts.
  • Other duties as assigned.




Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:

  • A minimum of 1 semester of Robotic Schooling or 2 years of welding experience.
  • Ability to successfully complete AWS/ASME certification tests.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong math.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools, measuring instruments, and operation of welding equipment including machine settings for various welding processes.
  • Ability to work on intricate welding processes, both hand and machine, and develop complex fabrications to closely prescribed standards.
  • Ability to perform fixturing and set-up as required.
  • Computer knowledge

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Anderson Dahlen fosters a manufacturing type environment. Moderately heavy work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 pounds or less. In the performance of essential duties, the incumbent may be required to operate a variety of industrial machining tools.
