Bobcat Company currently has an opening for an Engineering Technician (Fabrication) at the Acceleration Center in Bismarck, ND. This is an exciting opportunity to work on prototype designs for all Bobcat product lines and work in a world-class climate-controlled facility. Primary responsibilities for this position will be cutting and fabrication of sheet metal components used in prototype designs, but the position will also offer opportunities to support and grow in other areas of the prototyping process such as assembly, rework, welding, and machine.

Role & Responsibility

Primary Responsibilities:

Fabrication
  • Knowledge of general fabrication concepts and ability to determine the sequence of operations necessary to successfully produce requested part(s)
  • Equipment programming and tooling selection
  • Quality verification through utilization of mechanical and/or metrology tools
  • General equipment maintenance and upkeep
     

General Duties:
  • Cross-functional collaboration with various departments
  • Utilize CAD model software to view/interpret designs  
  • Support maintenance and repairs on facility and equipment as needed  
  • Assist with part coordination and logistics
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and safe
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
     

Other Cross-Functional Areas:

Assembly/Rework
  • Perform technical repairs and/or troubleshooting across various product lines
  • Knowledge of electrical/hydraulic component functionality and troubleshooting
  • Assemble new prototype machines using supplied CAD models and 2D prints


Weld
  • Develop/build/utilize unique fixture setups
  • Apply welds that meet the design intent for size, location, and quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assist in the development of weld processes
  • Quality verification through the utilization of mechanical and/or metrology tools


Machining
  • Knowledge of basic machining concepts and ability to operate manual machining equipment
  • Material knowledge and selection
  • Quality verification through the utilization of mechanical and/or metrology tools
  • Purchase and verify proper material required to complete the project if requested


Job Requirement

Education & Qualification - Technical Associates Degree/Allow Equivalent

Knowledge & Skill - Proficient in several of the specific job functions listed. Able to complete projects with minimal supervision or guidance. Able to lead small teams consisting of other technicians and co-ops to ensure timely execution of routine tasks. Proficient at operating major Bobcat products.  Understands Customer Usage Profile (CUP) and applicable duty cycles. Strong applied mechanical skills and a willingness to use them. Demonstrated leadership ability. Valid driver’s license required. Good written & verbal communication.

Experience – 5 - 7 years

Travel Standard - < 10%

Experience Description - Physical Demands: The overall level of work is defined as heavy duty. Employees are expected to exert 51-70 pounds of force occasionally, 21-50 pounds of force frequently and/or 11-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

What skills, education, and experiences does your ideal candidate(s) have?

•Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
•These are entry level opportunities
•Must be able to follow established methods and procedures and perform work accordingly. Must have the ability to work rapidly and under time pressure for extended periods of time in order to meet build requirements. Must possess the ability to read build sheets and blueprints.
•The ability to communicate with supervisors and fellow workers in both written and verbal forms at a level normally acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED is required.
•Job specific skills, techniques and safe work and equipment operating practices are learned through on-the-job and classroom training. General instructions are given on recurring duties, operations and assignments; detailed instructions are given on new duties, operations and assignments.
