Job Details

Role Overview:
The QA Manager has direct responsibility for the correct implementation of all the company s policies and procedures that affect food safety and quality and for the maintenance of all HACCP procedures. Responsible for the scheduling management and oversight of all FSQA physical, chemical, organoleptic and microbiological tests performed in the Food Safety & Quality Labs, as well as enforcing BRC policies. This individual will supervise the FSQA Technicians, and work with and/or lead Managers, Supervisors, Line Leads, and Food Safety & Quality Team cross-functionally to ensure all employees follow GMP s and Quality protocols, supporting compliance with GFSI certification and federal regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support and maintain all raw material and packaging specifications and proofs of conformance
Coordinate and maintain the Company s hygiene and food safety policies & procedures
Supervises all FSQA systems such as laboratory testing, swabs, and process adjustment recommendations that interact with Production.
Supervises all FSQA Technicians, assigning responsibilities as necessary, managing their time-off and schedule
Coordinates with and/or leads staff from other departments to resolve compliance issues found during daily production through testing results
Assists with the investigation of customer complaints providing information and Root Cause Analysis where required for FSQA Manager to respond to customers
Supervises/ensure the Hold/Rework log is accurate and up to date
Maintain updated Food Defense plan
Monitor all finished product to customer specific quality parameters
Train and maintain all Food Safety & Quality Training Matrix
Maintain the Raw Material intake program - including inspections, sampling, and follow on Supplier Non-conformance control
Work with production to implement corrective actions
Develop and maintain work instructions & procedures to drive continuous improvement
Monitor and maintain all processing, warehouse and FSQA documents
Maintain finished product specifications and formulation documentation per BRC requirements
Maintain and oversee calibration program
Maintain and oversee all BRC requirements and compliance with assistance of FSQA Managers
Participate in the Risk Management Program as applicable
Verifies activities of production line for product and packaging specifications, sanitation effectiveness, and line efficiency
Oversee COA creation for customers on finished product based on their specific requirements
Communicate test results, audits and complaint follow up with customers as needed
Oversee the facility s on-going environmental swabbing program. Participates in Lab Proficiency testing program.
Supports FSQA Manager on external audits (Federal, State, BRC, Organic, Halal, Kosher, customers, RSPO, etc.) and their respective Corrective Actions.
Reviewing over the day to day paperwork to be sure all is complete and compliant
Provide production assistance if any formula issues arise
Tracks and trends the data regarding the quality systems in the plant
Informs upper management of any food safety risk and/or significant non-conformances and takes action to maintain the integrity and efficacy of the Food Safety and Food Defense programs
Provides back-up for FSQA Managers and Leads as necessary
Addresses unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and hazards in their respective work area
Up to 10% travel anticipated

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education or higher, preferred college degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry or Microbiology
Knowledge and experience with HACCP concepts, implementation and coordination
Knowledge of GFSI audit and BRC audit in particular is a must for this position
Understanding of lab operations including equipment maintenance and calibration
3-5 years of Quality Assurance experience with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity preferred
2 years experience in a food manufacturing, environment, or experience in a technical support area
Must have ability to effectively discipline and encourage team members to meet customer expectations for quality and safety
Knowledge of food industry trends and concepts
Excellent people skills with ability to work with individuals from different disciplines
Excellent verbal, analytical, and organizational skills
Must have experience with writing quality and food safety documents such as standard operating procedures and policies as they relate to these programs
Must be able to effectively develop, implement and improve programs serving the food safety and quality of products
Must have very flexible schedule and be able to work extended hours if needed per business needs
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral or diagram form
