Thermo King is hiring a Senior Battery System Design Engineer in Minneapolis, MN! As part of our Electrification Engineering group, you will apply your knowledge and experience to define, design and certify battery solutions that allow us to optimize our Thermo King products.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with external partners (labs, universities) & internal Subject Matter Experts (SME) to advance battery model development in the company.
  • System integration in a variety of battery applications.
  • Lead commercialization of battery design solutions in transport refrigeration units in the range of 30-120kWh.
  • Define appropriate chemistry, cell, module and pack requirements, and coordinate with suppliers on design architecture and rapid proto testing.
  • Author lab test plans, conduct testing, analyze and interpret results and execute design updates based on the results.
  • Collaborate with global technology team to develop modular product strategy and create long term component plans.
  • Coordinate with cross functional engineering teams for battery management system design, electric system design, development, product launch and sustaining.
  • Drive project execution and achieve project milestones. Develop project plans, prioritize tasks, and write clear technical requirements in collaboration with product development teams and suppliers, and present materials in formal and informal environments.
  • Responsible for DFMEA, DFM, teardown analysis, root cause-corrective actions and functional safety analysis of batteries.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in battery architecture & BMS design.
  • High level understanding of EMC Compliance, Electrical Safety, and ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
  • Experience in battery modelling (MATLAB, Dymola/Modelica) and familiarity with application of models to system design.
  • Good knowledge in system integration of power electronic components and system test engineering.
  • Ability to perform detailed calculations to compute and establish electrification standards and specifications.
  • Understanding of relevant battery standards and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in simulation using Mathworks tools (Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow) preferred.
  • Proven problem-solving ability, experience with standard analysis and reporting tools (A3, 8D, DFMEA, Fishbone/5-whys etc.).
  • Project management and leadership experience. Experience in collaborating with an international team.
  • Good communications skills, analytical thinking, ability to work independently and in multi-cultural team environment.

Base Compensation Range is $73,500 to 151,000.

Disclaimer: This base salary range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
