QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
• And, two year vocational technical degree in machining or 5 years related machine shop work experience.
• Individuals are required to take a Combined Basic Skills Test verifying basic skills and knowledge and are also required to complete a Mechanical Aptitude Test and must achieve the minimum test score

• Individuals are required to submit to and successfully pass a Safety Screen that evaluates their ability to safely execute duties and tasks of this position.
• Required skills and abilities:
- Basic Shop Math Skills
- Read, Write and communicate effectively
- Able to work from and read detailed plans and blueprints.
- Familiar with and able to operate all machine shop equipment.
- Knowledge of all measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, levels, scales, squares, and must be able to work with close tolerances on machine work.
- Must be able to demonstrate skills through a hands-on practice evaluation (turn a shaft as per drawing).
- Must be able to cut and weld both gas and electric.
- Must have a general knowledge of factory equipment such as motors, pumps, gear reducers, turbines, blowers, fans, scrolls, etc.
- CNC Lathe operation knowledge/experience required where applicable.
• Must be able to reference, read and understand how to use MSDS information.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Major Duties:
• Provides quality machine work for maintenance department. Operates lathes, shapers, milling machines, drill presses, metallizers, arbor presses, etc.
• The Machinist works with various metals and machines according to specification.
• Machines spare parts for factory equipment.
• Overhauls and repairs mechanical equipment and rebuilds shafting according to specifications.
• Assists in factory maintenance as indicated by supervisor.
• Acts as a resource to mechanics in use of measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, levels, etc.
• Operates all shop equipment in a safe manner.
• Rebuilds and metallizes shafts and pumps.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Performs proper maintenance, repairs, and lubrication of all machine shop equipment.
• Performs work in a safe manner and wears personal protective equipment as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Works overtime as required.

Minimum Requirements

Work Environment: Employees are occasionally exposed to confined spaces, steam, and wet, humid, cold or extreme heat environments. Job tasks are occasionally performed at high elevations, on uneven surfaces, and under severe loud noise conditions (above 85 db) in which fall and hearing protection are required. Occasionally exposure to welding fumes, gases, vapors and particulates will require respiratory protection. Occasional exposure to vibration (power tools) and non-ionizing radiation (welding) will require antivibration gloves and welding shields/curtains. Will have to drive forklifts, pick-ups, man lifts, and lift equipment. Exposure to moving equipment will require lockout procedures. Employee will work irregular work hours with overtime.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements: Stands/walks a majority of the day. Must be able to carry 50 pounds occasionally (lifting more than 50 pounds will require assistance). Bending and twisting are done frequently while squatting and kneeling are done occasionally, stair climbing and ladder climbing is required. Wrist position deviates from neutral position frequently as does repetitive hand/wrist motion and use of hand tools. Occasionally push or pull on carts, chains, pulleys and comealongs. Manual dexterity needed with frequent motor movement. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety procedures, MSDS information, detailed blueprints, operation and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
