Location Description: Michael Foods, Inc. located in Gaylord, Minnesota is Minnesota's Healthy Heartland! Gaylord is located in south central Minnesota about an hour west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord is the "Hub of Sibley County." Our location produces liquid egg, hardcook egg, and precooked egg such as scrambled, patties and omelets. Responsibilities:

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The position requires a unique blend of knowledge and expertise related to food safety and quality, as well as IT based technology and processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts related to technology and computer-based systems, with the goal of maintaining food safety regulatory compliance requirements and reducing the practical food safety risk within the business.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in food safety and quality systems within the company. The scope of responsibility will include, company policy, GFSI Food Standards, Egg Products Inspection Act, Preventive Controls for Human Food, Preventive Controls for Animal Food, and other applicable standards or expectations.
  • Use their knowledge of food safety and quality systems to identify gaps within current processes and develop accessible technology solutions to support and improve compliance.
  • Function as a key member between the Corporate Food Safety and Quality department, and other functional departments such as Operations, Procurement and Engineering to identify gaps and technological solutions.
  • Mentor and coach others to foster awareness and expertise related to company technology solutions. Champion the use of systems at production facilities through training and the creation of site subject matter experts.
  • Asist site FSQ leadership in the identification of improvement opportunities. Develop technology-based solutions which address gaps and strengthen the organizations food safety and quality systems.
  • Develop new and innovative ways of leveraging existing technologies to drive efficiency and effectiveness into the organizations food safety and quality systems.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in new and emerging technologies and their potential application in the food safety and quality industry.
  • Develop business plans which clearly identify the advantages and risks associated with the implementation of new technologies. Make technologies accessible to senior leadership through research, white paper creation, and hands on demonstration.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Day to day management of existing food safety and quality technology systems utilizing systems such as SAP, Intelex, RedZone, and SharePoint. Act as the subject matter expert for FSQ technology systems, provide support to system users, and interact with technology support teams.
  • Work in partnership with the Corporate Food Safety and Quality team, and manufacturing facility teams (FSQ and Operations), to evaluate and determine potential technology solutions for food safety and quality issues.
  • Facilitate and support the manufacturing facility FSQ and Operational teams in the implementation of food safety and quality system technology.
  • Develop training programs, including training materials, for manufacturing facility personnel on the use of new and existing technology systems.
  • Coordinate and conduct (as needed) on-site training for individuals or groups (up to 30 employees) for the manufacturing facility food safety and quality technology systems.
  • Facilitate a verification process for the effectiveness of training and execution. Evaluate system usage by facility teams, provide support where necessary, and assess process for opportunities of improvement.
  • Support the food safety and quality organization through the development of technology solutions which facilitate mistake-proofing of everyday tasks.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, making recommendations for improvements of the food safety and quality systems.
  • Work with Corporate Quality and Manufacturing facility operations to drive consistency throughout all ISC manufacturing facilities.
Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Food Science/Food Technology, or related field. Background or formal training in Information Technology desired.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with progressive responsibility in a food manufacturing environment including the application of:
    • Food microbiology, Food Safety/HACCP/HARPC, GMP s, Sanitary design/controls, SQF/GFSI audit schemes and food technology.
    • Continuous improvement knowledge.
    • Systems such as SAP, Intelex, RedZone compliance
  • Project management - disciplined approach
  • Strong track record in delivering sustainable change
  • Excellent computer skills in Office, SharePoint, etc.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in different plant locations.
  • Able to work flexible hours (nights and weekends) as required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to travel 50 to 80% of the time.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, Customers/vendors, or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
