Job Summary

The Grain Merchandiser will capitalize on opportunities in the Ag market with responsible buying, contracting, and selling of various commodities. The Grain Merchandiser will make key decisions and must be able to work independently, be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and have proven leadership capabilities with an emphasis on building effective, long-lasting relationships within the Ag market.



Key Responsibilities

  • Secure and purchase a reliable supply of high-quality commodities at competitive prices
  • Monitor future markets on a regular basis
  • Form and execute strategies for marketing, buying, and selling
  • Resolve issues and disputes with accounting, transportation, and buyers/end users
  • Maintain existing customer base and identify, develop, and build new opportunities
  • Perform market analysis and formulation of corresponding commodity position strategy
  • Work closely with grain accounting in exchange of information
  • Monitor the macro-trends of financial markets and the global economy that can impact the respective commodity prices in the short, medium, and long term
  • Communicate pricing changes to marketed suppliers and to customers
  • Stay current on market trends, current grain quotes, grain programs, and purchasing grain
  • Communicate bid changes and closing bids to customers
  • Develop and establish strong customer relationships
  • Report and enter all purchase contracts quickly and accurately
  • Work in the exchange of information to enhance the flow of grain
  • Maintain a professional image within the industry and maintain strong relationships within and outside the company

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2+ years experience Merchandising / Grain Procurement preferred
  • Experience with a variety of commodities a plus
  • Robust communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiating skills
  • Ability to understand a position report and commodity contracts
  • Proficient in various software systems
  • Possess a strong set of core values, beliefs, and integrity
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business operations and process improvement
  • High school degree or equivalent; Bachelor s degree in Ag Business, Ag Economics, or another business-related program preferred
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver s license and satisfactory driving record
