Supervisor position- Day hours
Job Summary
Responsible for providing leadership of the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department. Acts as a point of contact to technical staff and responds to questions and provides direction. May collect and process lab specimens and may perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures May collect and manage samples of blood and other fluids from patients as needed. Serves as a liaison between technical staff and laboratory leadership, as well as communicating issues and concerns to appropriate personnel. Participate in the hiring, training performance management, and disciplinary action of staff. May assist in the collection and preparation of required budget information. Maintains a positive work environment for the laboratory staff and develop a team approach to optimize work flow, improve customer satisfaction and reduce errors. Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are met. Collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment with decision-making and problem-solving.
Qualifications
Associates degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Two years of laboratory related experience required.
Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification, for example: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Histology Technician (HT), etc. through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible and obtain certification within 12 months of hire into position. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. ND license regulations are not applicable for cytology or histology laboratories. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
