About the Job

Overview :

Help coordinate daily operations of the Farm at the Arb support services team which provides front line customer service, registrar services, education event programming, meeting support and building operations assistance at the Farm at the Arb buildings including the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center, The Myers Education Center and the Barn.
This is a 75% position, work schedule is all on-site, and includes weekdays and weekend days between 9AM and 7PM, depending on the season.

Description:
30% Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center guest service center

  • Provide exemplary customer service to all Arboretum visitors, members, staff and guests and answer basic questions about the Farm at the Arb including the Bee Center, pollinator and crop plot gardens, the Barn, and other interpretive features
  • Monitor visitor activities and enforce Arboretum and University policies in a professional and friendly manner
  • Remain visible to visitors and staff and/or maintain radio communication when not visible to visitors and staff
  • Maintain public space appearance
  • Know and follow protocol for basic issues, first aid and emergencies in the building


30% Farm at the Arb support staff team leadership

  • Supervise part time support staff team (5), including hiring, scheduling, onboarding, training, etc.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a volunteer team (up to 10) to assist with providing guest services and orientation to the Farm at the Arb
  • Serve as liaison with other Arboretum staff and departments who are using the Bee Center for classes and events, sharing information on these events with the support service team


25% Bee Center and Farm at the Arb building management

  • Coordinate building cleaning and maintenance/repair requests with Facilities staff for the Bee Center, Red Barn, Summer Kitchen and Myers Education Center at the Farm at the Arb
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of Bee Center exhibits and AV equipment with internal staff and/or external vendors as needed
  • Work with other Arboretum departments to ensure that the Bee Center and Farm at the Arb event calendars are up-to-date, and assist other departments in booking spaces at the Bee Center and Farm at the Arb


15% Education Department Administrative Support

  • Perform various administrative support tasks for the Arboretum Education Department such as, data entry, pulling and sending rosters, sending confirmation emails, customer support for online registration systems, distributing online surveys, preparing educational materials, and other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of related office and administrative experience. Training/education may be substituted for some of the years of experience.
  • Willingness to learn about Farm at the Arb subject areas; pollinators, gardening, farming, and cooking
  • Willingness to be welcoming to all visitors
  • Successful completion of a background check


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience providing positive in-person positive customer service
  • Minimum 2 years experience working as part of a team
  • Knowledge of one or more farm at the Arb topics including pollinators, gardening, farming, and cooking
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience using Google Workspace programs
  • Experience using registration, survey distribution, and volunteer coordination software programs (ex. Altru, DoubleKnot, Qualtrics, MyImpact)
  • Customer service experience at a museum, public garden or similar institution

The Arboretum's beautiful gardens and plant collections, nature-inspired exhibits, innovative learning, and events make it a valued community resource and top attraction. Founded more than 60 years ago, in 1958, the Arboretum is part of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota, the Arboretum is located approximately 30 miles west of the Twin Cities Campus along Hwy 5, just west of the City of Chanhassen.
