EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Payroll staff/Full-time with benefits
Average 40 hours/week with seasonal highs and lows
Up to 40% remote work available, upon approval
COMPENSATION: $19.00 to $26.00 depending on qualifications plus benefits of medical, dental, retirement and time off

This position is responsible for researching, writing, and securing grants from corporations, foundations, and government sources in consultation with the Executive Director and Resource Development Director, as well as the program team. The Grants Director will prepare all reports for grants and maintain a grants calendar which logs upcoming applications, reporting deadlines and tracks proposals in progress. This position is also responsible for coordinating the acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of grants awarded. The resource development department is responsible for the development and implementation of all philanthropy aspects of the Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

  • In collaboration with the Resource Development Director, prepare, submit and manage meaningful grant proposals for corporations, foundations, and government support, local and non-local, to meet or exceed the annual grant revenue goal and overall development goal of the organization.
  • Manage research, opportunity assessment, writing, and reporting for all grants.
  • Align grant funding with strategic vision and capacity of programmatic operations.
  • Develop budgets for proposals in line with grant requirements, working closely with VP of Business Operations.
  • Prepare grant reports to foundations and corporations in compliance with their deadlines.
  • Attend meetings for grant partners.
  • Become a content expert on organizational programs and expected outcomes.
  • Continuously maintain accurate, high-quality proposal language and general information for use by organization teams.
  • Manage grants processes including oversight of pre- and post-award data management, reporting, and multi-year grant requirements and payments, to ensure compliance with all grant reporting processes.
  • Establish, manage and maintain grant tracking system/calendar.
  • Practice exceptional stewardship to organizational donors, beyond required reporting, providing excellent customer service to key volunteers, donors and outside contacts while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Work closely with colleagues to learn about projects that could be funded through grants.
  • Write copy for and edit solicitation and promotional pieces in coordination with resource development team, including direct mail appeals, case statements, annual reports, fundraising brochures, newsletters, acknowledgements and other materials as assigned.
  • Prioritize multiple deadlines and manage supplemental requirements for grant proposals.
  • Serve as a member of the RD Committee and Program & Safety Committee, and attend monthly board meetings as requested.
  • Provide support for fundraising events as needed.
  • Offer supervision, feedback & evaluation to assigned staff, interns, volunteers & work-study students.
  • Delegate responsibilities and coordinate project management within team.
  • Along with all other staff – maintain observance of strict safety standards for our members, report incidents or concerns involving members to the Unit Director or Executive Director.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Non-Essential):
1. Need valid driver’s license.
2. May be required to drive Club van.
3. Assist program staff on occasion with Club members
4. Maintain a clean work-environment by vacuuming, dusting, and wiping off all surfaces at workstation area as needed
5. Assist basic safety and sanitation by occasionally helping to clean the bathrooms, common spaces or to shovel or salt all sidewalks and entrances/exits.
6. Participate in professional development.
7. Occasional weeknight and weekend hours.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal:
Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff reports (professional and volunteer), other Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External:
Maintain contact with external foundations, corporations, community groups, churches, schools, and others as needed. Work with the Resource Development Director & Executive Director to develop and steward local and non-local grantors, partners, and corporations that support the Club’s strategic plan.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3 years’ experience in non-profit agency operations and/or grant writing.
  • Proven effectiveness applying for, securing, and reporting on grants portfolio of at least $100,000 annually.
  • Experience tracking grants and using online grant application systems
  • Ability to keep accurate and up-to-date grant records, log, record, itemize, tabulate grant applications, reports, and correspondence in local server files and web-based grant management software.
  • Ability to effectively plan, communicate, organize, prioritize, and ensure implementation of all grant funded projects in relation to established goals and objectives; precision and attention to detail in respect to strict grant deadlines and stewardship efforts
  • Proficiency in the use of Windows, Internet, Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher) and Google Platform (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms).
  • Strong and effective communication skills: oral, written, speaking, and listening
  • Strong interpersonal skills: builds strong relationships, engages in conflict resolution, is flexible/adaptable, works well with others, solicits feedback; able to effectively communicate with top leadership, volunteers, and team members in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to initiate and follow up on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and tasks in order to function well in a fast-paced environment while maintaining calm composure.
  • Must be quick, a self-starter, possess ability to look ahead and take charge of a situation.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills, identifying alternative approaches to problems and using logic, reasoning, and data-driven decision making.
  • Proven comfort level working in a systems environment, with ability to learn and use new software and systems as required. Optional: Knowledge of eTapestry donor software
  • Ability to supervise staff and volunteers and manage committees.
  • Practical knowledge of professional administrative procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standing stationary for 60 min at a time; while walking, with rare running.
  • Climbing ladders on occasion.
  • Reaching for objects at or above head level and below waist level daily.
  • Sitting for four or more hours at a time in a desk chair daily.
  • Repetitive typing, including number entry on a 10 key, frequently
  • Talking – Workers are able to express themselves by speaking. Including conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Hearing – Ability to distinguish sounds at normal levels and able to receive detailed information orally, and to discriminate between sounds.
  • Lifting – Ability to lift or assist in lifts of small equipment and children and rare assisting in moving of heavy equipment including pool tables, foosball tables, and couches.
  • Light work – Requires worker to expend up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 5 pounds of force routinely.
  • Operate basic office machinery including copy machines, keyboards, fax machines, phones, autofolders, laminators and more.
  • Proficiency with basic money counting.
  • Visually preparing/analyzing data & figures; viewing a computer screen.
  • Workers are subjected to both inside and outside environments.
