This Environmental Engineer II position will provide technical expertise to support project managers on environmental investigation and remediation projects for Bay West's various Federal, State, and Private sector clients. Typical projects include sites contaminated with petroleum, chlorinated solvents, metals, and residual munitions constituents. Remedies implemented by Bay West include vapor mitigation using sub-slab mitigation, in-situ bio stimulation, in situ chemical oxidation, soil vapor extraction, air sparging, multi-phase recovery, excavation, and groundwater extraction/treatment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare project deliverables including correspondence, proposals, data review and interpretation, project reports and remedy determination, remedy implementation and bid specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Collaboratively work with other staff to problem-solve and produce high quality creative solutions for our customers.
  • Provide directions to field staff and coordinate field activities with contractors and Bay West staff.
  • Conduct occasional field work, focused on remediation system maintenance and optimization
  • Procure, contract, and conduct oversight of investigation, system maintenance, drilling, and excavation subcontractors

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related science degree
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster friendly, positive, productive, and team relationships.
  • Ability to read and understand maps, schematic drawings, diagrams, and instruction manuals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - Word and Excel
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel

Preferred qualifications:

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification; we will provide for otherwise qualified candidate
  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience
  • Successfully completed the Engineer-in-Training exam or Geologist-in-Training exam
  • Ability to accurately interpret and apply knowledge of environmental theories, processes, and regulations
  • Experience working for an environmental consulting firm

Essential physical & intellectual requirements:

  • Requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, bending, and grasping
  • Work environment can include high heat and extreme cold
  • Occasionally lift 25 pounds
  • Excellent decision making, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of intellectual honesty and curiosity
  • High level of initiative with the ability to act with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects with multiple sub-tasks simultaneously daily
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
