A day in the life

The Lead (Senior-level) ETL Developer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the data warehouse and all related extraction, transformation, and load data functions. This role designs, defines, and implements standards and procedures for platform validation and maintains data integrity through the data lifecycle. The Lead ETL Developer collaborates with stakeholders to define new data assets and design and build data models to integrate the data assets to support data use in reporting and analytics. This role serves as the interface to IT and Security for technology upgrades, file transfer procedures, code management, and job scheduling. 

 

Your responsibilities will include
  • Analyzes the business requirements for data file requests to design, develop, and deploy fully automated ETL jobs to produce data files.
  • Designs, develops, and deploys ETL programs to facilitate the receipt of data from various data sources and the loading of data into destination tables within the overall data architecture framework.
  • Collaborates to design end-to-end solutions for file creation and distribution, as well as supporting ETL production processes and operations.
  • Performs technical peer reviews and code reviews.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors departmental staff on new technologies, methods, or processes to enhance data assets and capabilities. Collaborates with leadership to support strategic goals within the team.
  • Leads discussions with customers and stakeholders to understand and translate business use cases and requirements into data models, data integration routines, and analytics reports.
  • Utilizes advanced understanding of healthcare data models to identify data sources and maps data to required file specifications.
  • Designs and automates data quality and data validation functions as part of the overall solution.
  • Leverages expertise in ETL and the MS SQL platform to perform performance tuning of technologies to manage data.
  • Participates in review of potential technical architectures and solutions to improve and enhance existing systems, processes, and data services.
  • Facilitates collaborative data modeling activities or sessions among multiple stakeholders
  • Expands the use of data to support the company’s strategic goals and objectives.

 

What you need to succeed
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or related field
  • 5 years of experience in computer programming language(s) coding, building deployment software required.
  • Experience with Microsoft’s ASP.NET, SSIS, SSRS, C#, and the .NET Framework
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting ETL processes.
  • Experience with managed file transfer) and Opcon Scheduler.
  • Advanced understanding of complex database methodologies, data analysis, SQL queries, ETL, and business information management applications.
  • Experience with data lakes, data warehouses, and other data management components utilized to establish data assets for reporting.
  • Experience leading projects and/or mentoring other team members is required.
  • Advanced ability to think analytically.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to coach others.
  • High-level of attention to detail.
  • Desire to continuously grow, learn and develop professional skill set.

  

Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards

Job Posting Policy

Employees new to Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota are eligible to apply for positions within their assigned department after successfully completing 90-days in their role. For positions outside of their department, new employees should attain a minimum of six months of service before applying for a new role. Exceptions to this are acceptable, provided there is good business justification for making the move.
