Position Summary:
This Leadership Council position is responsible for the direction and oversight of the mortgage division; formulating, communicating, executing, and sustaining mortgage product, technology, operations, pricing and strategic delivery direction and initiatives. As a member of the Alerus Leadership Council, this position will work with other Alerus business leaders to foster customer centric and One Alerus business practices; breaking down silos and starting with the customer first.

Essential Responsibilities:
Job Function 1: Mortgage Division Oversight - 40%
  • Develop and execute the annual strategy, budget and production goals.
  • Provide vision and leadership to the division employees to execute the annual strategy through an environment of collaboration.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry products, technology, and delivery programs that can increase efficiency, sales or the client experience. Implement work-flow process improvements from origination through delivery with an emphasis on automation and digitization.
  • Develop new markets and delivery channels as needed.
  • Prepare for succession planning and provide an environment for employees to grow and advance.

Job Function 2: Alerus Leadership Council Member - 20%
  • Participate in, and contribute to, the process whereby Alerus leaders promote and execute the long-term strategy of the company.
  • Is a key member of the CRO's leadership team that drives market and product division success.
  • Implement key decision making that sustains positive organizational change.
  • Foster a One Alerus culture across the organization.
  • Lead by example through individual participation on appropriate boards and industry organizations.

Job Function 3: Profitability & Product Management - 20%
  • Work with leadership to maintain a competitive product and pricing model to serve clients and real estate partners.
  • Oversee the mortgage loan portfolio originations. Analyze trends in conjunction with credit and finance leadership. Adjust offerings as required to optimize the Alerus balance sheet.
  • Assist V.P., Capital Markets with price analysis to ensure we remain competitive while also balancing margin and revenue optimization.
  • Regularly analyze the division financials to determine what adjustments can or should be made to optimize net income.
  • Create ongoing marketing programs designed to engage existing and new real estate agents while retaining our existing client base.

Job Function 4: Risk Management Compliance and Investor & Vendor Relations - 20%
  • Maintain knowledge of state and national mortgage compliance regulations. Ensure that the division is properly managed to meet these regulations.
  • Work with division leadership to provide oversight and input on vendor management strategies to meet corporate guidelines and requirements.
  • Lead Internal & External audits for the division. Complete audits timely and accurately. Implement new internal controls as identified in audit reviews.
  • Complete mortgage division SOX compliance updates as required.

  • 10+ years of Mortgage industry leadership experience.

Physical Demands - Must be met with or without a reasonable accommodation:
  • Extended periods of time sitting at a desk and using office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer/laptop for approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Extended time is spent reviewing physical and electronic documents.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Periodically, may also do light lifting of supplies and materials which weighs in at approximately 20 lbs.
  • Will spend most of time in an indoor environment.
  • Requires the routine & safe operation of a motor vehicle to travel between multiple locations to perform the essential functions of the job.
