Position Information

NDSU Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program designed to increase academic skills and help low income/first generation high school students gain access to higher education. The purpose of the Academic Coordinator is to assist in implementation and development of the program, recruitment of participant and work directly with students to achieve program objectives.

This position is grant-funded through August 31, 2027

Advertised Salary: $40,000+DOE

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate in collaboration with the Director the development of academic and summer component curricula, services and activities framework in accordance with federal and grant requirements.
  • Recruit eligible students at target schools as well as feeder schools and meet recruiting goals at each target school.
  • Coordinate and oversee the student and parent/guardian interview process and selection.
  • Assist in the organization and collection of Upward Bound filing and tracking database.
  • Meet regularly with participants in target schools for academic advising, skill building, college preparation, and support.
  • Maintain accurate participant files and other information necessary for evaluations and audits.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, staff, and school personnel.
  • Maintain membership and participation in regional/state TRIO association.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in education or related field
  • Significant experience (1-3 years) working with low-income, first generation, historically underrepresented and students from other diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of collegiate academic and financial programs
  • Commitment to Service, Teamwork, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Experience in teaching/advising, curriculum or related activities with high school students
  • Student Recruitment experience
  • Experience keeping detailed records
  • Computer skills
  • Experience with TRIO
  • Ability to network with public schools and University personnel
