American Crystal is looking for a self-motivated individual to join our team as a Corporate Accounting Manager. This position manages the multi-company accounting and financial systems functions to ensure current and future needs of all Companies are met. They will provide technical and analytical support in the development and maintenance of the general ledger functions including preparation of the Company's consolidated financial statements and financial statements along with other financial reporting for American Crystal Sugar Company, Sidney Sugars and ProGold.

The principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the primary technical resource in the areas of accounting and financial reporting. Provides leadership and direction to all company locations regarding accounting procedures and principles.
  • Manages the development and maintenance of the multi-company (ACSC and SSI) general ledger and accounting functions and directs the gathering, analysis, and recording of financial and statistical information received.
  • Supervises the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing and consolidation of the Company's financial statements. Reviews tasks and various journal entries of staff accountants.
  • Prepares consolidated and individual Company financial statements ensuring all financial statements maintain the highest quality, reliability, accuracy, and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and regulations. Proofs, references, and cross-references financial statements for accuracy before being sent to management, the Board of Directors and appropriate financial institutions.
  • Leads the development and implementation of new procedures and provides training to new or existing staff as needed.
  • Manages the corporate accounting team, including assigning and directing work, appraising performance, providing mentorship and career planning, and resolving issues.
  • Serve as the Company's Business Lead for the SAP finance modules, including General Ledger, Costing, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Investment Management, and Project Systems.
    • Ensures the current and changing needs of all companies (ACSC, SSI, MAC, USC, and ProGold LLC) are met and ensures accurate information is provided in a timely manner for utilization by management.
    • This includes conducted training, materials maintained, resolving issues, involvement in future releases, and recommending changes as needed.
    • Provides the leadership, support, and technical expertise required to effectively complete system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Serves as Assistant Treasurer/Assistant Secretary on the Board of Governors for ProGold Limited Liability Company.
  • Plans and coordinates the annual financial audits of American Crystal Sugar and ProGold LLC with the Company's public accounting firm. Works directly with the independent auditors to provide all necessary records, reconciliations, account analysis, and reporting.
  • Performs final check on the Company's annual report to ensure it is error-free.
  • Plans, directs and designs the evaluations and assessments of the Company's systems of internal control at all locations which safeguard assets and promote the accuracy and reliability of accounting records.
  • Develops solutions to problems in conjunction with the Corporate Controller. Reports to the Corporate Controller on routine matters to obtain a second opinion when needed but is responsible for analyzing and defining these problems before work has begun.
  • Has the freedom to operate within company policy guidelines; and relies on established policy and precedents as guidelines in formulating solutions.


Minimum Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis, accounting principles and procedures typically gained through completing a degree in accounting or finance.
  • Five to seven years of managerial experience in a financial environment.
  • The ideal candidate is passionate and knowledgeable about leveraging technology to streamline and automate processes.
  • CPA or CMA is highly desirable.
  • An overall understanding of company business operations with solid knowledge of and experience with the SAP finance modules is preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills as well as leadership and interpersonal skills with a capacity to interact with all levels.
