The Training Manager for Instructional Design serves a critical role within the Optum Enterprise Training team and is responsible for analyzing, assessing, constructing, and delivering scalable training solutions. Individual contributors such as Training instructional designers, developers and contractors report to the Training Manager.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set team direction and establish training strategies and initiatives to best serve our customer's needs
  • Collaborate with appropriate internal partners and business stakeholders and SMEs to identify and solution for business needs goals and gaps and communicate solutions and ongoing status
  • Determine the appropriate training methodologies and communicate to stakeholders to drive adoption
  • Identify and communicate on current and emerging trends in the training industry including technology capabilities, training delivery modes (ILT, e-learning, virtual, blended, etc.) and new and emerging learning techniques and technologies
  • Contribute ideas to influence and drive the adoption of technology solutions that enhance training outcomes in the business
  • Drive implementation of training solutions
  • Leverage appropriate resources to drive the design, development, and delivery of training solutions; contribute to any and all aspects of the process as needed
  • Develop overall training plans and calendars to communicate and manage training projects, activities, and resources
  • Proactively identify and address implementation obstacles and issues as they arise
  • Recommend enhancements to our learning processes and systems
  • Manage training staff and resources and adhere to training budgets
  • Identify and procure training staff and other resources, e.g., equipment, software
  • Ensure staff understands how training goals align with business strategies and ensure adherence to internal processes, procedures, and practices
  • Ensure staff has access to required tools and information
  • Establish clear lines of communication with all applicable stakeholders and set appropriate expectations
  • Manage training projects to ensure proper design, development, implementation, and evaluation of training solutions
  • Monitor and analyze training metrics, data, and trends, and communicate areas needing attention to applicable stakeholders
  • Lead or delegate lessons learned activities for continuous improvement in learning and business outcomes
  • Evaluate and communicate training value and impact
  • Collaborate with leadership to champion training and development business priorities
  • Collaborate closely with Delivery and Knowledge Management training leaders to develop cross capability strategies and solutions to best serve our customers and learners
  • Act as a leader and maintain professionalism in all interactions with business leaders and learners

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • 5+ years of experience with adult instructional design
  • 3+ years of experience managing projects
  • Experience developing and presenting effective training programs to a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and principles
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience using e-learning development software (e.g., Articulate 360, Camtasia or Captivate) and administering a Learning Management System
  • Ability to travel to facilitate meetings and/or training at other locations if needed (up to 10%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing direct reports to include work at home / remote employees
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Exceptional professionalism in both written and spoken communication
  • Ability to gather and analyze complex information and then synthesize that information into clear, easy-to-understand training and documentation solutions
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with other employees
  • Good negotiation, problem solving, planning, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically
  • Ability to think creatively and to be hands-on in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
