Electrical Project Engineer

Location: Minneoonka MN area (100% Onsite)

Permanent role or contract to hire

My client is looking an Electrical Project Engineer in Minneoonka MN area. The position will be a member of the Electrical Engineering group for solar, wind or energy storage plants, which includes plant layout, selecting appropriate system hardware, system optimization, power production modeling, and interconnection requirements for projects. This individual will support senior designer and engineers in the preparation of construction documents. The position has plenty of opportunity for growth in this fast expanding renewable market.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Construction document production support
  • Coordinate with various design team disciplines including civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors
  • Electrical engineering design of commercial- and utility-scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, and storage)
  • Create wiring/cable schedules based on takeoffs and sizing input from senior designers/engineers
  • Modeling and running electrical studies using ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYMCAP, and WinIGS
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of design/CAD standards
  • Mentorship and training of younger engineers and ability to contribute as a technical resource for the team

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
  • Education and/or experience with power systems analysis and design
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Approximately 3 - 8 years of experience in the electrical engineering of wind and/or solar facilities
  • Functional experience with power systems modeling software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SKM Power Tools, PSSE, PSLF, or similar software
  • Functional experience with routine electrical studies such as ampacity, short circuit, load flow, and reactive power
  • Working knowledge of NEC and/or NESC
  • Ability to interface with clients and third parties and to maintain healthy working relationships
  • Working knowledge and ability to read construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows/Office products
  • Professional appearance with excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must have a strong work ethic along with a positive attitude
  • Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment, and capable of both leading and following
  • Must be self-motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines
