Description & Details:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at North Dakota State University seeks qualified applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position (9 month) with a title of assistant or associate professor of practice. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students and faculty and share in our vision to provide nationally recognized excellence in engineering education, research, and service to our profession and society.

The candidate will be expected to teach a broad variety of undergraduate courses in the mechanical engineering curriculum, with a focus in the areas of thermal/fluid systems and energy stewardship. The following specialization areas are of particular interest: energy conversion, conservation, and storage; clean energy technologies; HVAC; and large-scale generation and distribution of energy. Work Schedule:

40 hours/week, 9 months/year

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS and MS degrees in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline
  • Significant industry experience in an energy related field; or earned PhD degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline with some industry experience in an energy related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach and develop new courses in thermal fluids, energy storage, conservation, or other energy related areas
  • Strong interpersonal and workplace cooperation skills
  • Ability to mentor and advise undergraduate students and capstone design projects
  • Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students
  • Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Earned PhD degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline
  • Prior teaching experience in thermal fluids and energy related courses
  • Experience mentoring capstone design projects
  • Registration as a professional engineer
