We are seeking a self-motivated professional with strong technical and analytical skills to join Sentry's Tax team. This role will perform a variety of financial and accounting activities to control and report on the organization's financial activity and ensure that it complies with all relevant regulations, laws, and reporting requirements. This team works with business stakeholders to plan, analyze, and prepare tax filings and ensure the related financial activities are properly managed and accounted for. The Financial Analyst will analyze and project financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for financial reporting and operational decisions. What You'll Do Assists in the preparation and filing of all Federal and State income tax returns for the Sentry group of companies. Computes adjustments to determine taxable income by gathering information from other functional areas, preparing workpapers, leveraging software platforms, and applying knowledge of accounting practices and tax rules. Prepares necessary tax accounting entries to properly record accruals, current tax expenses, and deferred tax items. Works with external auditors to provide support for our year-end tax provision, deferred tax items and financial statement footnotes. Corresponds and communicates with taxing authorities to resolve notices of other filing discrepancies. Collaborates with other business units to consider tax implications of activities and answer tax related questions. Leverages current and available platforms and technology to improve processes, documentation, efficiencies, and transparency of tax information. Supports other areas within finance, especially regulatory reporting, budgeting, and financial reporting. What it Takes A positive attitude, along with a desire to learn, support others and be a member of a team. Prior experience with accounting for income taxes and/or corporate tax preparation is highly encouraged. Ability to learn and utilize various software platforms to perform required duties. Knowledge of CorpTax, Workday or similar systems is a plus. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in a financial services field is required (i.e. Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Science, etc.) Insurance industry experience and knowledge of statutory accounting principles is not necessary. Self-starter that can set priorities, manage their time and meet deadlines. Ability to effectively communicate with others. Knows and applies fundamental accounting, tax and financial analysis skills. Ability to effectively identify, analyze, and resolve problems. Applies analytical, research, and documentation skills.
