Job Description

U.S. Bank is hiring. The Payroll team is looking for an experienced individual to join the team as a Senior Payroll Tax Specialist. The position is focused on tax and garnishment activities within the payroll process.

In this role you'll be responsible for processing payroll tax changes including those from employee address changes, location changes, and new hire audits to ensure payroll taxation is accurate. Additional responsibility will include; processing wage garnishment paperwork, refunds, and handling any issues or questions that may arise in a timely and accurate manner.

Other duties include:

Responsible for timely, accurate and consistent processing of garnishment deductions according to department policies/practices and federal, state and local regulations.

Utilizes third party system for garnishment processing; reviews information requests and audit reports. Ensures issues are resolved timely.

Assists with timely and accurate remittance of payroll tax liabilities.

Maintain tax setup for new hires and employees with address or job changes.

Assist with quarter and year end processing

Processes misc. payroll transactions using knowledge of departmental procedures, federal, state and local wage and hour standards and company policies; including appropriate work documentation.

Reviews departmental procedures, exception and audit reports. Identifies and takes appropriate actions.

Reviews, researches and processes transactions and answers complex questions regarding payroll tax and garnishment issues.

Investigates unique or complex problems and brings suggestions for solutions to the Manager for resolution.

Uses ServiceNow and partners with HRConnection representatives and supervisors, assisting with investigations and identifying timely solutions on escalated issues to ensure HR Shared Services SLAs have been met.

Provides recommendations and proposals for improvement on payroll processes and internal operating procedures to increase efficiency and enhance the employee experience.

Maintains a detailed knowledge of federal and state laws and company policies and procedures affecting payroll.

Assists with advanced systems testing and manages administrative projects as assigned or self-initiated.

Maintains sensitive payroll information with a high degree of confidentiality.

Cross trains with team members to build skillset and provide assistance to other payroll teams as needed.

Creates and helps to maintain up-to-date departmental documentation related to payroll processes.

Runs payroll queries and utilizes data to ensure data accuracy, investigate issues, conduct analysis and solve problems.

Location: Position is hybrid out of the Robbinsdale, MN office.

Basic Qualifications

High school degree or equivalent

Two or more years of experience in processing payroll

Preferred Skills/Experience

Well-developed reading, writing, and mathematical skills

Tax and/or garnishment experience

Workday/ServiceNow system experience

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or desire to earn the accreditation

Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills

Proven administrative/clerical skills

Ability to identify and resolve exceptions and to interpret data

Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of data
