Description

The Director of the International Center works collaboratively to recruit and retain international students (undergraduate, graduate, law, and medical) at the University of North Dakota. International student support initiatives are central to this position's responsibilities. A primary purpose of the position is leading partnerships among university departments (academic advising, athletics, admissions, enrollment, student finance, office of the Provost, Aerospace, etc.), SEVP and other federal agencies and the students and scholars to enhance services, understanding, and experiences for all parties involved to increase recruitment and retention of the international population. The Director oversees visa and immigration processes to determine eligibility and provides information to students and scholars.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage international student and scholar recruitment and retention plans.
    • Collaborate with the University Admissions Director and Vice Provost of Strategic Enrollment Management in development of short- and long-term recruitment strategies.
    • Report and evaluate recruitment and enrollment outcomes.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate student programming to support student success, persistence and completion.
    • Collaborate with campus partners.
    • Provide oversight and implementation of customer service to the international population to increase retention.
    • Analyze data to determine student and scholar success.
    • Identify barriers for students' academic progress and develop initiatives to overcome challenges.
    • Travel as needed for recruitment events.
  • Provide overall leadership, supervision, and management to the International Center
    • Provide strategic direction in the immigration process for students and scholars.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all visa and immigration procedures managed by the International Center.
    • Hire, train, and provide guidance and support to professional and student assistant staff.
    • Oversee the International Center budgets.
    • Serve on committees as assigned.
    • Serve on regional and national committees as the voice for international students and scholars when appropriate.
  • Provide direct assistance to international students and scholars
    • Create annual communications plan to communicate dates and deadlines to new and current students and scholars.
    • Explain immigration policies/procedures and how they impact students and scholars financially and academically.
    • Direct oversight of outstanding student account balances.
    • Knowledge of, and ability to explain, scholarships and waiver programs available.
    • Educate and refer students and scholars to other University offices when appropriate.
    • Maintain current knowledge of visa, work authorization, and immigration policies and procedures.
    • Collaborate with appropriate personnel to resolve difficult issues pertaining to student and scholar immigration.
  • Other duties as assigned.
    • Work with VP SEM, the Vice Provost for Online, and the Office of Extended Learning, to formulate and implement enrollment strategies for the university's on-ground, online and hybrid undergraduate and graduate programs.
    • Review and collaborate on international travel policies for faculty, staff, and students.
    • Assist with Passport processing.
    • Serve as a member and/or lead on relevant committees, task forces, etc.
    • Continue to grow professionally through participation in conferences, organizations, and other professional development opportunities.
    • Continued process improvement to assist students and scholars and collect data to enhance the office and UND.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working with a team in a customer service environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Work and Excel), and email
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$68,000 / year; exempt; benefited; full-time

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
