DevOps Engineer Description & Duties: The DevOps engineer is a highly skilled individual who excels in bridging the gap between development and the networking areas of focus. The main areas of focus are around low-level infrastructure and monitoring of all services. DevOps engineers share ownership of the build and deployment pipelines for our products. DevOps engineers continue to participate in product and application development, not as a coder, but rather an advisory type of role, as needed by the development team.


Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that every interaction (internal or external) is built on trust and respect.
  • Strive to collaborate on the identification/refinement of requirements, by establishing a personal rapport with internal and external clients.
  • Be Passionate and adaptable with the design, development, and testing of all layers of the build processes and infrastructure that you will contribute to building.
  • Insist on providing a level of service, second to none, to both your internal and external clients and leverage sound judgement to make informed decisions or to influence someone else's decisions.
  • Contribute to and evangelize the design, development, testing and performance of our build, deployment, and networking layers of our platform.
  • Leverage a design patterns/recipe first approach with the tools that help us automate our infrastructure and build processes.
  • Scour and Evaluate new methodologies and contribute to the overall product roadmaps of both internal and external 3rd party systems by providing seamless build and deployment processes.
  • Take ownership in building your professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and even by participating in professional societies.
  • Strive to Achieve and Exceed team goals, above individual goals alone.
  • Protect operations by keeping all information confidential.
  • Be excited to accept other duties as assigned and adamant to take on other duties as new opportunities to help drive your team and the organization forward.
  • Tune monitoring of application, systems, or AWS metrics
  • Improve our internal automation, especially through the use of "Infrastructure as Code" tools
  • Identify and build in-application metrics
  • Design and implement infrastructure cost-savings measures
  • Assist with debugging of production issues and try to prevent their reoccurrence
  • Act as an internal resource for development teams; Provide a specific focus on improving reliability and performance

Applicants must be reliable, dynamic, sociable and enthusiastic team players; while possessing a positive "can-do" attitude, excellent judgement and communication skills. Applicants must also have great attention to detail and ability to multi-task under the stress of deadlines with a strong desire to help the organization succeed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar relevant field; or Associates w/relevant experience. Certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software, Spreadsheet software and Design software.


Working Conditions:

Office environment with significant time spent sitting, typing and talking on the telephone.
