Position Information

The Laboratory Director is pivotal in ensuring that laboratory operations are functioning efficiently, professionally, and exemplifies student-centered care. The position provides leadership for the laboratory operations and is very involved in daily clinic operations of the Student Health Service in accordance with University, Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, CLIA standards, AAAHC standards and all regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Commitment to Service, Teamwork, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Serve as Laboratory Director. Maintain CLIA standards and all regulatory requirements. Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day operation of the laboratory as well as any special projects. Ensure laboratory testing complies with the established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain professional licensure and an appropriate level of knowledge, skills, and judgment to provide competent services based on the needs of the population.
  • Conduct safety inspections, eliminate hazards, train employees about safe work habits, and enforce safety rules.

Work Schedule:

Full Time, Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science
  • North Dakota Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice license
  • Five or more years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in non-waived testing in a general clinical laboratory setting.
  • Two or more years of supervisory laboratory experience in moderate complexity testing.
  • Knowledge of CLIA practice standards
  • Computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills and techniques to successfully build and maintain positive customer relations and provide quality service
  • Excellent communication skills to successfully interact with a diverse constituency
  • Experience successfully exercising independent judgement in solving and troubleshooting problems in a constructive manner

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a clinic setting or college health
  • Professional skills to handle sensitive and difficult situations with diplomacy
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and investigative skills to ensure seamless operations of the Student Health laboratory
  • Ability to multi-task and distribute efforts appropriately among tasks, manage competing deadlines, handle frequent interruptions, and maintain high level of productivity
