Outdoor Excapes is a well-known and respected Twin Cities landscape design/build company working mainly in the western suburbs. Our focus is primarily on high-end, residential, outdoor living projects. We take great pride in being creative while delivering exceptional craftsmanship. We also prioritize providing a friendly and enjoyable experience for our clients and our staff.

We are currently looking for a Construction Estimator to confirm and estimate materials and costs. This includes preparing detailed construction cost estimates by studying plans and specifications while interacting with our designers, project managers, and site supervisors to determine engineering and design requirements. This includes reading construction documents, providing takeoffs, assembling estimates, inputting in estimating software, and establishing goals and standards.

Key Skills a Construction Estimator maintains

Attention to detail and desire for quality work
Strong math skills.
Ability to read and navigate specifications and plans.
Proficiency and understanding of landscape & carpentry needs.
Ability to handle multiple assignments at once.
Knowledge or willingness to learn the latest building standards.
Excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of Estimating Software is highly desired but not a deal breaker as it's easy to learn.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepares work to be estimated by gathering information and requirements and setting priorities.
Assists the design team with writing specifications and with material selections.
Prepares Quantity Estimates off Architectural Drawings, Proficient Plan reading skills a must.
Evaluates plans by costing changes, additions, and site requirements.
Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials and project needs. Creates bid packets for the design team.
Resolve quantity discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
Establish subcontractor and vendor relationships and maintain contact for seasonal pricing and market changes.
Prepares project proposal documents, material lead time outlook, and other documentation to assure a steady stream of information to the Project Managers and other team members. This includes processing change orders.
Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
Promote the company image by exercising sound and ethical business practices as they relate to clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and the public.
Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating labor and material tracking.
Contributes to team effort by providing project-specific estimates with accuracy. This may include job site visits.
Resolve cost differences by analyzing and collecting information and job costing reports upon job completion.

Construction Estimator Requirements

Education. Trade School or College Diploma, Construction Degree a plus or actual experience in estimating construction
Teamwork. Ability to work as a team member
Communication. Strong organizational and communication skills
Effective oral/written communication, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to analyze information, use documentation, reporting, and estimating skills
Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities within established deadlines
Effective time management and logical decision-making ability
Capacity to handle pressure
Job Costing and ability to develop budgets and vendor relationships
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with Estimating Software a plus.
