This position supports business partners and clients within the organization and externally through critical thinking, quantitative analysis and effective communication. The position will support creating and validating solutions to key business challenges through research and investigation including a variety of data sources. Will use actuarial and data science practices to support findings and conclusions with the ability to relay results to various audiences with different levels of expertise. Identifies potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Work with our largest clients supporting complex analytic and actuarial functions
  • Work with across multiple business, balancing conflicting goals to provide actuarial direction and strategy to balance growth and profitability goals
  • Develop assumptions, build and maintain pricing models supporting different consumerism initiatives
  • Assist sales and underwriting team in product quote presentation to prospective clients
  • Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Develops pioneering approaches to emerging industry trends
  • Focus on innovation
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with broader teams and senior leadership
  • Works to resolve highly complex or unusual business problems that affect major functions or disciplines
  • Evaluates programs that impact markets of customers and consumers
  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business
  • Translates highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences

Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in applicable area or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of concepts and methodologies in health care
  • 6+ years of Actuarial experience
  • 2+ years of Project leadership and/or client management experience
  • Experience interacting with senior management
  • Hands-on experience in building actuarial models
  • Technical skills - advance excel, VBA

Preferred Qualifications:
  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
  • Experience working in the health care industry, specifically with health benefits consulting or strategy for large group ASO accounts
  • Proficiency with Excel, Access, VBA, and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
