POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting the CFO, Controller and Accounting Managers in directing the day to day accounting functions of Wanzek and related companies, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, procedures and initiatives.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Supervise Accounts Payable employees
Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training new employees.
Plan, organize, and coordinate work activities of the department to ensure deadlines are met.
Mentor, coach, and drive performance of the AP team
Monitor the team's adherence to policies and procedures for internal controls and separation of duties.
Coach team members and provide expertise on the processing, recording, and reporting of accounts payable transactions
Assess strengths and skill gaps within the department
Review accounts payable batches and check for accuracy and completeness and direct correcting entries as needed
Review year end information to ensure accurate 1099 information
Assist with the production of the weekly payment run reporting
Analyze and reconcile various General Ledger accounts, prepare month end work papers and prepare correcting entries as needed
Strong understanding of SOX guidelines to ensure accurate controls and segregation of duties are in place to meet compliance
Identify areas of improvement and make recommendations for process efficiencies
Assist Project Managers (PMs) with questions related to financial and operational information
Obtain and organize information for internal and external audits. Ensure accuracy of information gathered by team.
Assist various entities in all accounting related functions
Plan and execute special financial or operational projects as they arise
Various other accounting duties as assigned by management
Review vendor setups while maintaining a level of professional skepticism and applying critical thinking skills to ensure vendor banking information is accurate and not fraudulent
Communicate and train employees of what to look for to research and identify fraudulent vendor information
Research, track and resolve Accounting or documentation discrepancies related to AP
Analyze and import job cost, equipment cost and general ledger cost accruals into Viewpoint monthly
Assist HR, PMs, and Administrative Staff with various information and inquiries

Supervisory:

Support the Accounting Manager with training and mentoring Staff Accountants, AP Specialists, and Accounting Assistant in completing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual accounting tasks as well as special financial or operational projects
Provide oversight to the work assigned to Staff Accountants, AP Specialists, and Accounting Specialists
Execute supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
Minimum 5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek's Zero Injury principles
Strong computer skills, specifically Viewpoint and Excel
Proficient communication, interpersonal and organization skills along with an attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and professionalism
Ability to handle multiple tasks with simultaneous deadlines and prioritize workload in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to interact with multiple personalities at all levels within the organization
Read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
Assist supervisors with preparation of reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
