Position Information:

Description

Perform laboratory technical duties in support of Dr. Dhasarthy's and Dr. Brissette's DoD and NIH-funded research in the School of Medicine & Health Sciences.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participate in research activities in the Dhasarathy and Brissette laboratories including conducting experiments. In addition, perform supportive functions such as ordering supplies, autoclaving glassware, preparation of reagents and cell culture
    • Perform research involving biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, and cell biology approaches
    • Work with mice, including handling of animals, injections, bleeding, and dissection
    • Learn and develop new techniques in the above areas with reasonable supervision
    • Prepare media, reagents, and stock solutions
    • Prepare records and reports of laboratory analysis, test results and interpretations
    • Maintain cell culture for tissue culture work
    • Bench techniques: electrophoresis, PCR, analysis of RNA and DNA, protein extraction, western blot, immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence
    • Cloning and preparation of adenoviruses/lentiviruses
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment and work area. Identify new, and replenish existing supplies/accessories. Keep records of all purchases and pertinent information.
    • Clean, sterilize and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and work areas
    • Maintain stocks of DNA< antibodies, primers, and other reagent inventories
    • Ordering laboratory supplies and reagents
    • Stocking lab supplies once they arrive
  • Review of data and draft conclusions for reports
    • Clearly document results of experiments and analysis in hardcopy or electronic format
    • Actively participate in analyses of experimental data including spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc.
  • Assist the supervisor in laboratory operations: record keeping, training lab personnel, preparation of manuscripts and grants
    • Assist the supervisor in training of other lab members in techniques, protocols and concepts, lab safety, record keeping
    • Actively participate in discussions in laboratory meetings and present their results at outside meetings, including poster presentations and oral presentations
    • Assist the supervisor in preparation of manuscripts and grants using the data obtained by the individual


Required Competencies

  • Proficiency with MS Office software
  • Working with lab equipment such as pipets, centrifuges, microscope, PCR, real-time PCR, tissue culture


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology or related field
  • At least 6 months of work experience in a research laboratory (through formal education and/or training)
  • Must have experience with cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques such as western blotting, PCR, etc.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

  • Experience with generating Lentivirus


Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$35,000 / year; non-exempt; benefited; full-time

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
