The program links farmers and researchers to exchange knowledge on the profitability, practicality, and environmental impact of crop production practices and cropping systems. Northwest Wisconsin is a region of the state with numerous soil and water conservation, nutrient management, and pest management challenges. This education and outreach position will address these issues and provide high-quality outreach programs to educate clientele on research based agricultural approaches. The Northwest Wisconsin Nutrient & Pest Management Regional Outreach Specialist can expect the following opportunities in the position: Coordinating and delivering educational programs that promote the adoption of agricultural best management practices for protecting water quality while maintaining or improving farm profitability via educational workshops and on-farm demonstrations. Educating audiences on the SnapPlus nutrient management planning software program. Conducting on-farm research and demonstrations in conjunction with farmers, rural landowners, county- and regional-based UW-Extension staff, UW campus-based specialists, county conservation staff, agribusinesses and others. Within the assigned region of Wisconsin, provide technical assistance regarding nutrient and pest management practices to a variety of clients. Responsibilities:Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget. + 20% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program + 20% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program + 20% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members + 20% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials + 10% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement + 5% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending + 5% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Qualifications: -Must have at least 2 years of experience related to crop nutrient and/or pest management, 3 years preferred. -Experience in both formal and non-formal outreach programming. -Experience conducting applied agricultural research and knowledge of related environmental, economic, social issues. -Candidate must be capable of working as a team member in an interdisciplinary program. -Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills are essential. -Familiarity with word processing, presentation, and database software is essential. -Ability to learn, use, and educate others on the SnapPlus nutrient management planning software program is required. -A working knowledge of the University of Wisconsin nutrient and pest management guidelines for field crops is expected. -Knowledge of precision agriculture software is desirable. -Ability to organize and work productively with indirect supervision in a highly visible public sector environment. -Candidate should have excellent organizational and time management skills. -Ability to plan collaboratively, execute independently, and take personal responsibility to help team efforts succeed. -Ability to travel regionally, and occasionally, work on evenings and weekends is required. Weekly travel to Madison may be required during the first several months of employment. -Ability to be approved to drive State of Wisconsin vehicles is highly desired. Candidate may need to make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet the position responsibilities and essential job functions. Work Type: Full Time: 100% It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. Occasional travel to Madison will be necessary. Position will be responsible for the Northwest Wisconsin area for the Nutrient & Pest Management Program. This regional location will be agreed upon between the program and candidate prior to starting the position.
