Description

  • Primary responsibilities include monitoring for cultural resources exposed during construction.
  • Monitors will also assist with cultural resource surveys, mapping and subsurface testing, site documentation, archaeological feature recovery, and other tasks as required.
  • Monitors will help Traditional Cultural Specialists/Tribal monitors to perform their duties as needed.
  • Job will include daily field work, preparation of daily monitoring report, submission and analysis of geospatial data.
  • The successful candidate must be proficient with standard Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications, and have awesome organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Experience with ESRI applications and data collection is preferred.
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and able to work successfully as part of a field team and independently.
  • Candidate must be able and willing to perform work as described above in remote, rugged, and harsh (very hot/very cold) conditions.
  • The cultural monitor will need to work as long as the construction crew is performing ground disturbing activities, and this may periodically require long days in the field (12-14 hours)
  • Candidates must live in or be willing to temporarily relocate to southern Wyoming; northwestern Colorado; or eastern Utah for the duration of the project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in geological engineering, geology, hydrogeology or related discipline;
  • Geologist in Training (GIT) certifications preferred;
  • Minimum 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II ESAs;
  • Groundwater modeling experience (e.g., MODFLOW and/or AQTESOLV ) preferred, however not required;
  • Computer aided drafting (CAD) experience preferred, however not required
  • Working knowledge of CDPHE, CDLE-OPS, CERCLA, RCRA, or other applicable state or federal regulations;
  • Completed OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and have current 8-hour refresher certificate.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in natural resources including experience working outdoors in remote areas, preferably near the Canadian border
  • Bachelors in anthropology, archeology, or in related field
  • Archaeological experience to qualify as a director on the BLM cultural resource use permit
  • Excellent migratory bird identification skills preferred
  • Experience in raptor behavior as well as excellent birds of prey-identification skills and ability to identify raptor species visually and calls preferred
  • Previous pipeline, highway, or transmission line experience
