About the Job Position and/or Unit Overview: The West Central Research & Outreach Center (WCROC) is hiring a full-time Researcher 1 position. The position reports to the Renewable Energy Director, Eric Buchanan at the WCROC. The position provides technical support to team developing solar powered, autonomous vehicles and researching Ag environmental issues. Major Areas of Accountability (with percentages): (55%) Assist with fabrication of autonomous vehicle structure including mechanical weed control prototypes, adapt prototypes to commercial robotic platforms, conduct and document bench and field testing of prototypes, and assist with development of mobile solar charging stations. (40%) Assist in surveys (by-phone and in-person) and data collection on use and recycling of plastics in agriculture. Conduct literature-based research on agricultural recycling activities and sources of PFAS contamination in agriculture. Summarize collected data. (5%) Duties as assigned: Will be expected to back up and cross train with other renewable energy staff members. Assist with tours and outreach events. Qualifications Required Qualifications: 1. Must have a BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years. Preferred Qualifications: 1. A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or similar technical field. 2. Basic computer skills including experience with MS Office, especially Excel. 3. Ability to conduct internet-based literature searches. 4. Some familiarity with basic shop tools. 5. Experience working in a research environment with data acquisition systems. 6. Experience in organizing and analyzing data. 7. Practical experience with solar energy systems. 8. Logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills - especially with mechanical systems. 9. Ability to occasionally work for extended periods in outdoor environments.
