Summary As a Supervisory Architect, you will serve as the Deputy Director and Regional Chief Architect for the Great Lakes Region, Public Buildings Service, and supervise a staff in the Regional Chief Architects Program Office. Help Duties The Projects Program Division is responsible for implementation of national and regional design and construction policy in all production offices. This position has job functions that must be executed within a specific geographic location. The official duty station is a federal facility or leased space. Positions include routine telework that are geographically specific to: Chicago, IL; Springfield, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Milwaukee, WI; Battle Creek, MI; Grand Rapids, MI; Detroit, MI; Cincinnati, OH; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Minneapolis, MN; Fort Snelling, MN and St. Paul, MN. Duties include: Organizing, planning, and communicating staff work assignments. Conducting regular reviews of staff work assignments. Providing technical and supervisory guidance for staff. Reviewing work for accuracy and compliance with instructions and policy. Advocating and supporting the professional growth and development for other architects, engineers and technical disciplines in the region by encouraging training, licensure, and continuing education. Establishing performance and work measurement criteria for subordinates. Regional champion in establishing, advocating and facilitating the implementation of quality within all regional production offices and at all stages of a project. Providing leadership and influence to any program or project which affects the architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, interior design, historic preservation, public art, fine arts conservation and urban design, or any other designated system that has an impact upon the value of a building or asset. Establishing internal policies, procedures and controls for design within the region and coordinating those controls with other branches within PBS to ensure uniformity and consistency among subordinates and other branches. Ensuring proper oversight and control are provided for all design work undertaken by the region. Ensuring proper supervision, oversight and control are provided for the Chief Architects Program Office and it's subordinates. Making authoritative decisions regarding technical matters, referring policy or political issues to higher levels as appropriate, along with recommended course of action or policy change. The Regional Chief Architect is a liaison with the design and construction community and assists private sector vendors in understanding how GSA functions. Serving as the region's professional leader and technical authority of all design and construction professions. Coordinating design operations with numerous and outside organizations involved in design and construction management functions. Providing technical expertise in the architectural field and serving as a key advisor to top management and primary contact for programmatic decisions in the field of architecture. Providing expertise and advice on the implementation of GSA design excellence processes for federal and lease construction projects including Architect/Engineer design selections and coordination of design excellence reviews during project development. Act as liaison for PBS with other private firms for construction projects and planning activities and assists PBS associates and architect/engineering firms involved in the First Impressions Program of which the R5 Regional Chief Architect manages. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ARCHITECTS: A Degree in architecture or related field; OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is professional work in the design and/or project management of major architectural projects (including representation of either owner or tenant in the execution of major large-scale architectural projects, or design management of a multi-project building program); developing and implementing policy and procedures, including analyzing and monitoring programs or policies; presenting complex issues and providing recommendations to senior management and developing and maintaining a system of management and internal controls.
