GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION This position is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining the University network and communications systems. This includes management of the internet domain (including DNS, DHCP, and SSL), network switches and routers, wireless infrastructure, voice-over IP phone systems, uninterruptable power systems, and campus cabling. This on-ground position works closely with the Server Administrator and other Information Technology staff, especially those working with campus hardware, cross-training where possible under the direction of the Vice President for Information Technology. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

  • Design and support for the following:
    1. campus network infrastructure, including ethernet switches, firewalls, wire closets, wireless network, VLANs, and supporting systems
    2. campus network access control and bandwidth management systems
    3. campus telephone system, including user accounts and E911 information
    4. campus power systems in the data center and all wire closets
  • Manage the campus domains, including internal and external SSL certificates, DNS, DHCP
  • Manage and install campus cabling, including network, phone, and cable TV infrastructure
  • Provide network support for campus vendors' needs
  • Assist with and provide support for the campus video surveillance/security system
  • Provide training for users as appropriate in the proper use of the network, telephones, and other related systems, including helping users interface mobile devices to campus systems
  • Work with users to troubleshoot problems with the above systems and find workable solutions
  • Ensure systems are kept up to date as appropriate and are protected from unapproved access
  • Assist with campus printer/copier configuration and management; PC image and patch management
  • Other cross-training and duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • AA Degree in Information Systems and IT field experience required; Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or related field and field experience preferred
  • Three years in network support or similar IT field required
  • Formal training in network and Voice over IP systems preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise with virtual environments, including VMware Enterprise edition; Cisco networks and protocols, including switches, servers, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and Voice over IP (VoIP)
  • Proven knowledge of cabling standards for Ethernet, voice, and cable TV systems; VoIP telephony systems and phones; as well as ability to work with and manage servers, including current editions of Microsoft Windows Server and related systems such as Active Directory and LDAP
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively and positively with vendors, students, faculty, staff, and administrators as required in a work setting
  • Ability to set priorities and manage to change priorities effectively with verifiable knowledge of current technology and best practices in the field
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication with the ability to create clear documentation for projects and procedures
  • Occasional work during the night or weekend will be necessary
  • Available during emergencies (power outage or systems failures) required
  • Ability to regularly lift and /or move up to 35 pounds; successfully pass a required background check; valid driver's license and ability to periodically stand, sit; walk; lift; use a ladder, pull cable, or install cable as needed during the job
