This position exists to conduct International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) audits. The purpose of these audits is to ensure proper reporting and payments of registration and fuel tax for Minnesota and all other jurisdictions that are a member of the IRP and IFTA. The job duties are professional auditing of trucking companies to ensure proper reporting and payment of registration and fuel taxes to Minnesota and other states. Audit activity includes review and evaluations of taxpayer records to ensure adequacy of recordkeeping systems and effectiveness of internal controls. The position also exists to educate carriers on proper IRP and IFTA record keeping and other registration requirements of Commercial Trucking and to promote driver and Vehicle Services integral role in Commercial Trucking. Minimum Qualifications One year of compliance auditing experience which includes all of the following: 1. Knowledge of the generally accepted auditing standards, principles, techniques and procedures to evaluate operational performance, internal controls, and reporting procedures; previous experience conducting a compliance review audit, identifying deficiencies, issue tax liability assessments and recommending corrective action. 2. Experience in writing complete, clear and concise audit reports and work papers. 3. Experience applying statistical sampling techniques to create sample tests that can be used to determine audit scope and project audit result. 4. Verbal communication skills to provide subject matter guidance and explanations of governing rules and regulations. 5. Ability to work with a diverse or contrasting types of business. 6. Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities. Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Auditing, Business Administration or related field may substitute for six months of the above experience Preferred Qualifications 1. Word and Excel Processing (sufficient to use software to create, format, edit, print, and save a variety of documents, including invoices, letters, spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs). 2. Experience in the development of training material and presentation skills. 3. Knowledge of the IRP, IFTA, registration and fuel tax procedures and compliance record keeping requirements as they apply to commercial vehicles. Physical Requirements Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file folders and small tools. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
