SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, engineering and development of new products and enhancements to existing products. They will actively participate in project team meetings providing status updates as needed, and will utilize STRATTEC's internal systems and processes for product development and data management. Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively sharing engineering direction with our customers and within the organization, including: manufacturing, internal and external suppliers, testing, etc. This candidate will be able to lead problem solving activities and root cause analysis leading to product and process improvement opportunities. Periodic travel to customers, suppliers and other STRATTEC facilities will be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for product design, engineering and development deliverables for assigned programs
Reviews / writes engineering specifications, technical reports and test plans
Leads multi-disciplined design reviews
Coordinates prototype builds, including development of prototype build control plan
Performs root cause analysis for validation failures and supports root cause activities for production issues
Generates and implements cost reduction ideas
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Capable of conceptualizing and developing mechanical and electro-mechanical devices
Perform strength of material and static force calculations
Ability to design springs and perform spring force/stress calculations as required (Advanced Spring Design 7 experience preferred)
Read, interpret and create engineering drawings (GD&T experience req'd)
Ability to work with basic tools in tearing down and / or benchmarking product assemblies
Multi-task, plan and organize work efficiently and effectively
Present engineering data and progress directly to customers
Be self-sufficient and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision
Capable with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Experience with DFMEA, DFM, DFA, performing tolerance stacks, 3D CAD (preferably PTC CREO), gear design
Design for manufacturability/assembly (mechanisms, snap-fits, metal stampings, plastic injection molded parts, die cast parts, gears etc).
Root cause analysis methodology (Red X or 8D preferred)
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BSME or related technical degree is required
5 10 years minimum experience in product development required. Engineering co-op experience may be applied.
Product design experience for mechanical and electro-mechanical devices preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to speak Spanish is preferred but not required.
