Maintenance Technician Night Shift 6PM-6AM $76,000-$85,000/Year

Job Description Summary

Maintain and repair packaging area process and infrastructure equipment. Assemble, install, test, and maintain process equipment, apparatus, fixtures, etc. using hand tools, power tools and test equipment. Work with Electrical and Automation Technicians and other employees to maintain the equipment and optimize processes. Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and drive equipment improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor process equipment for proper operation and make adjustments and minor repairs to optimize machine performance.
  • Inspect equipment and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Observe and diagnose malfunctioning machines, systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown or operational problem.
  • Clean, lubricate, adjust and repair machinery and equipment.
  • Disassemble machinery to inspect for defects and replace compromised components. Reassemble machinery according to manufacturer's procedures.
  • Operate newly repaired equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs. Work with production employees and electrical technicians on re-commissioning procedures.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance inspection on equipment using specialized test equipment including ultrasonic, thermography and vibration analysis.
  • Understand and safely work with 3 phase AC power circuits (227-480V), 110V circuits and low voltage systems.
  • Study blueprints and manufacturers manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.
  • Understanding of NFPA arc flash hazards and acceptable industry practices to remain within compliance of these rules
  • Ability to repair and fabricate components using shop machine tools and applicable welding techniques.
  • Construct and fabricate parts and replacement components using hand tools and specifications.
  • Repair damaged components and effectively assess the needs for replacement.
  • Effectively use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment .
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files with a CMMS system, preparing reports, ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area and follows sanitation standards set forth by Quality Department, HACCP, GMP, FSSC and other standards.
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize work - Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish the work.
  • Personal computer proficiency, ability to communicate through email, phone, written documents or other forms of communication.
  • Make decisions and solve problems - Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, and production employees. Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Obtain and utilize information - Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Update and use relevant knowledge - Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the job.
  • Think creatively - Develop, design, or create new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributions.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy
  • Follows all Safety rules & procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others
  • Follows all food safety procedures
  • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable
  • Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies

Minimum education and experience required:

  • Requires education generally equivalent to a High School Diploma plus 1 to 3 years of trades training in industrial maintenance or other technical discipline.
  • An AAS degree in robotics, industrial maintenance or technology is desired, but not required.
  • Requires 3 to 5 years of experience relating to electrical repairs, programmable logic controls, and wiring in an industrial setting.
  • A complete commitment to personal and coworker safety and adherence to rules and procedures is expected.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematic and mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to function as a team member and contribute to group goals.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, such as grinders, saws, machine tools, and welding equipment.
  • Requires good knowledge of the process equipment and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Requires the ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Requires good oral communication skills to effectively deal with coworkers.

    Protective Equipment:

    Employees must wear safety glasses, steel toe boots, protective gloves, ear protection and any other required personal protective gear mandated by the job or conditions.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls, climb or balance, and/or talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl or walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit or reach above shoulders.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while performing electrical repairs and changing-out motors and pumps. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, in proximity to the risk of electric shock, and in outdoor weather conditions.

    The employee must regularly work in non-weather related wet and humid conditions. The employee must occasionally work in high precarious places, in proximity to fumes or airborne particles, in proximity to toxic or caustic chemicals, in non-weather related extreme cold or heat, and near sources of vibration.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
